I'm guessing this has been discussed dozens of times or more, but I am striking out on my searches.

Looking to pick up some bolt guns geared toward 6-8 year olds. The Crickett rifles look a bit on the low quality side, although some of the stainless bull barrel models I have only seen online may hold more promise. Henry mini-bolts (only seen these online as well) look like they might be decent.

Any experience with either or these or suggestions of other manufacturers I should look at?

    Thanks for your time.

My daughter who is 6 has a pink cricket. She loves it. We bought it used from someone you used it heavily. I have never had a problem with it.

My kids both loved their Crickets at that age (and older). They feel cheap, but they are stupid accurate, (for a $100.00 kids rifle). My 12 year old still takes his little Cricket out with us when we go shooting. We shoot the bigger stuff, but he still gets a kick out of that little rifle.

The new Rascal from Savage looks pretty nice.

Wow. Kiddie 22 with an accu-trigger. I picture my 7 year old daughter out shooting me. I like it.

Edit: Buds has them in stock for $151 and free shipping. $170 for the hardwood stock. This might be a winner.

A buddy recently gave me this Marlin Little Buckaroo for my youngest daughter. Other than the obvious small size, it doesn't feel cheap or toy like at all.

The youngest Jr that I help coach shoots a Savage rascal. I think it is the best little kids rifle out there today. The Henry rifle is second best. I was able to try one at the range last month.

The CZ is a fine rifle but I do not think that the smallest one they make will fit a small kid.

I would hold off on a CZ until they are a teenager, 13 and up.

If you can find one the older Remington 514 they can't be beat for the price.
I just bought 3 of them for use with the Jrs. One has been sent out for new sights that are costing more then the rifle did.

I learned to shoot on a Marlin little buckaroo... great gun. Saving it for when my son gets a little older.

my daughter has a Pink Cricket and my son has a Savage Cub rifle. Both are excellent rifles. if you're looking for a starter bolt, just think that your kids will outgrow it by the time they are 10-12 and you'll have to upgrade to something else like a CZ rifle. My son is 10 and he's outgrown it, he wants an AK now

Tell me this could have been Chad as a kid...and some English kid...or maybe not...no suppressors?

Anyhow, they look like fine kids guns to me...

Maddie's tastes have changed, too. She started off with a single shot .410, then a Marlin 60, now she has a 20ga Mossberg 500, the Marlin and an H&R .22 revolver.

She got her hands on a friend's 1911 and now wants one. :D
