Last night, just before dark. Get a knock at the front door. Dogs go nuts and need to be restrained by wife.
Looking thru peep hole see one male, mid 20" on porch. Check out side window reveals no one else standing off to the side.
Tuck G26 into back of waistband and open the door.

Dude says he is starting a new buisness in film production and self defence.WTF?
    Instant suspision on my part.
So I ask for a buisness card. He has none.
Tell him I'm not interested and send him on his way.
I imediatlly send out the dogs out back. My fear is having someone act as a deversion up front. While partner comes in thru the back.

After a few minutes I walk out front and dude is still walking door to door.
Notice as he reach's the corner house thats 6 house's up the street from mine.
Notice another male, walking up the street that will eventually come around to the rear of house's on my block.
They wave to each other and continue on.
feeling uneasy I call the cops who show up. Ask questions, look around but find no one walking the area.

Today at work. Wife tells me about her co workers mother in law. Whom happens to live next block up. Gets robed today. Guess who knocked on their door last night also.
    Yep same dudes.
Just got done giving my statement again to local police with discription of person knocking at my door.

Although you read about it. Hear about it. You never really are ready to come face to face with those scopeing out a area for burglary or the chance I could have been sized up for a home invasion.

Brings it home everyone needs to keep an open eye and open mind when the unusual goes on around you.
Enforces my choice to always have a weapon in reach at all times when possible.
Always be aware of your surroundings and possiple motives of others.
    FWIW:)

And this is why I don't bother answering the door anymore.
Anyone that comes unannounced can keep on walking.

    Good job calling the police

I couldn't agree anymore with this. I don't ever go to anyones home without calling first.

To The OP, I am happy you're safe and kudos on calling the police. Lord knows I am tired about hearing about home invasions.

Last week I had the first of what is usually a half dozen guys that are paving driveways in the area and want to cut me a deal as they have ordered too much asphalt. Most of these guys are legit and have decals all over their trucks and the rocker panels are stained from all the tar. This guy was in a small economy rental car that was nice and clean. After he gave me his speech, I hold up my cellphone and take his photo before saying 'No thanks'. He gives me a look that is part disappointment and part shock.

I usually keep a camera by the front door and greet people with a blinding flash if they arrive unannounced. That way, if anything happens all I have to do is give the memory card to the police.

At least they will have a way to identify them.

    Thanks for the heads up.

If something suspicious like this happens here, I'll make a point to grab my DSLR, and shoot some photos with a telephoto lens.

I'm rarely home during "civilized" hours and the few that know where I live know better than to show up unannounced. Anyone knocking on my door or peering in the windows is stupid at least and suicidal at most.

I would not likely hesitate much before resorting to defensive measures and I live alone. I can't imagine that you guys with families would have any patience for this crap at all. Thanks to OP for keeping us vigilant and posting the details of the threat so others can look out.

That is a really good idea. We should always do this for anyone suspicious. I'm pretty sure your front porch is still publicly accessible so there is no reasonable expectation of privacy on their part--nothing preventing you from shooting them (with your camera).

This is one of the things I hate about living in the city... the number of people that go door to door. I usually ignore them while the dog goes nuts.

+1 on not answering the door.

I can't even understand legitimate businesses using door-to-door sales any more.

It's not just happening in the city. My "crackhead" next door neighbor had another crackhead living with him, female type. She started stealing our newspaper, and selling it for crack money. In the meantime, she is walking up on the porch and peeping through our windows. I got in all on video and ran her off. Come to find out, her husband later gets popped for breaking and entering, based on the intel she was feeding him. He was facing hard pokie time and so he hanged himself in the Cecil County lockup. A few months later, a chicka fitting her and her son's description, are going door to door in another area neighborhood, similarly to what you are describing. The next day, one of my co-workers, who lives in that area, gets his house ripped off. I live in podunk Perryville. It's not just the city anymore...

    True.

I was referring to the number of people, in a given week, that knock on my door for whatever reason.
