Wolf 30-06 Thoughts

Anyone used Wolf Military Classic in 30-06? At 40 cents a shot, hard to resist:

Makes my 50 cent Greek Surplus look overpriced! Besides the steel case...

I've used the Wolf Gold 8mm ammo which is much like the 06 and it has shot well in my rifle. It is brass but I've never attempted to reload it. I keep the better name brass for that. Get a box and test it out at the range and tell us how it worked out...

Except that HXP brass is pretty good brass for reloading.

Hard to think of 30-06 as a plinking round.

Wolf gold/Privi is OK, makes some calibers cheap or available, the brass is reloadable, but it is definitely inferior to most Win/Rem/Fed ammo. I'm not a fan of their steel cased ammo outside of 7.62X39 and 7.62x54, they have a steep enough taper that they don't stick as easily. In straighter cases like American mil calibers they might jam a little, might jam a lot, but in most cases the accuracy sucks, there is also no telling what the burn rate of the powder is, and if it will jam or overpower a garand action.

I'd stick with CMP HXP at $0.55 shipped per round. It's cheaper than that Wolf once you sell the can it comes in and the brass.

LuckyGunner did a test on bi-metal bullets.
I will not use them anymore.

The bi-metal really does eat up the rifling in a barrel

Unless you cants get HXP which it sounds like you can. Why bother?

200 rds 30 cal can and reloadable. Plus if its like all other wolf it was dirty as hell.

Yes, the Wolf is bimetal. However, the majority of HXP is bimetal too. I think the two years I encountered which were copper jacketed were 1964 and 1965.
