I came across my late 80s HBAR colt in the safe the other day and my first thought was I should sell it. My second thought was it probably wasn’t worth selling. Maybe I should reconsider.

For a working rifle in Maryland, you can do better for less .

For Colt Collectors , Sporter from that era , original configuration, decent condition are ascending .

    Plan A - It's worth something now . ( $ 1795 may be optimistic. But a cpl years ago were $1400 ish .

Plan B - They aren't making any of them , and will only go up .

Sort of on task…I built a pseudo-DMR on a Sporter HBAR receiver I bought a small eon back. The upper has a Colt HBAR cut to 18”. It makes small groups. It is 1994 preban. Not so sure about collectible..it has the large pins and press in block at the rear of the cut out. It wears a Colt stock. I wanted to buy an original upper for it. The guys selling them at the time obey were alloyed with gold.

JLowes and Del-Ton make it easy. ($440)If I wanted one I'd go there.

After owning it, one can decide what they like/dislike or what they want to improve on it.

Without knowledge derived from ownership, I see no point in spending 3X as much for a "build"

Otherwise, it's like a trumpet player going out and buying a new magic mouthpiece every month. :)

I laugh every time I hear people wanting to put 'pencil' barrels on their ARs, when back in the '80s, everyone was clamoring for an AR with a heavy barrel. I guess it's a forbidden thing. You don't necessarily want it, until you're told you can no longer have it.

Here-here, I'll drink to that. I actually prefer a little weight up front...between the arms really when in firing position.
Sometimes it is the tacticool thing. I remember when fixed sights brought in the 'tactical' 1911 and red/orange inserts in the front sights and white outline rear sights were the thing.
