Just picked up at this AK. They couldn't send me the original mags because I'm in MD:sad20:Looks great except the Tapco magazines will not fit unless I really fight it (a lot). Do you think I have a problem with the receiver or the Tapco magazine(all 5). I wish I had a steel magazine to try the fit.

    Any one have any thoughts?

It's not uncommon to have to file AK mags to fit. Don't sweat it on the cheap ones like Tapcos.

(FWIW, I had to file the Hungarians to fit my SKS-M...)

Tapcos are a little thicker. I have a buddy who likes them because they fit snug in his WASR. The magazine well had been milled a little to wide on his WASR

Yeah, not a big deal. My Tapcos have improved over time with use, but are still a bit snug. I prefer the metal mags. The KeepShooting steel mags mentioned earlier work nicely in my AK.

The one tapco I have measures wider than either the factory steel or plastic (but metal lined) magazines. Its a tight fit in the gun. So the problem is w/ the tapco as the magwell is probably only sized for the orig magazines.

tapco magazines are great for the range.

set 'em on the berm, then walk back to the firing line and once the range is hot, let 'em have it. shooting with a steel surplus or bulgarian waffle magazine, of course.

because those are what you should use in an AK.
