This is just some numbers for everyone to chew on. It gives you some facts for when you get into discussions. I hope you find it helpful.

Remember NICS checks are for unregulated long guns as well as regulated “assault” weapons and handguns.

National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Is the Federal “instant” check system for firearms purchases and related activities such as issuing permits. Because not every check is for a firearms purchase and multiple purchases can be processed with one check there is not a direct one to one relationship of NICS checks to sales numbers. The data was from links to PDF files found on the FBI NICS web page.

    2011 103,020
    2012 136,604
    2013 10 months 191,513

    Total Maryland checks Nov. 30, 1998 to Oct.31, 2013 1,450,035.

    Analysis:
If the average monthly rate for 2013 (19,151) continues until the end of the year the total of NICS checks in Maryland for 2013 will be about 229,815. The average number of Maryland NICS checks for the first 10 full years of the program 1999 thru 2008 was 82,654 checks per year. So the political system, the news media, and SB 281 have caused an increase in NICS checks so about 2.8 years worth will occur this year alone.

There are still 51,000 regulated firearm applications outstanding in Maryland and 61 new applications per day have been received by the MD State Police over the last 4 weeks.

The average number of NICS checks in Maryland for 2013 is 630 checks per day.

Believe there was a delegate that said something similar - that they themselves (dems that voted for the law) stated the law was a complete failure as the anticipation of the law spurred even more of the purchases that were supposed to stop the people from exercising their 2nd Amendment right.

So they went from 701 per day to 61 with the implementation of new legislation - sure sounds like an unconstitutional infringement to me.

The 61 applications per day number is an average for the four weeks, the most current rate reported was 45 per day. Back in September they were receiving well over one thousand applications per day. Here is a link to a post with more detailed numbers on the application process:

This was very well orchestrated and accomplished exactly what was planned.

Keep in mind, it took 100% participation from the MSP at all levels to get it done, for those of you who still like to swing from the MSP's balls and act like they (at the core) care about Maryland and legal gun ownership.
