I'm an 18 year old aspiring collector of antique handguns, and various other firearms, I was wondering if it was possible to get the collectors license now?
SUMMARY: Can I get a collectors license at 18 years of age?

C&R (03FFL) is where it's at if you like collecting old handguns. But you have to be 21 to apply.

Best advise is to keep studying the history and the guns now, save up as much money as you can, and be ready with a plan when you turn 21. No matter how much you save in the timeframe, it will never be enough once you get the C&R.

    You can't get a C&R FFL03 license.

Before I turned 21 in July, I wanted to get the MD Designated Collector Letter so I could avoid the 30 day waits. MSP said that you must be 21 to get a DC letter.

If what you're interested in is antiques (pre-1899), you don't need any licenses anyway. Antiques are not regulated.

Problem being it wouldn't be just antiques, but that's fine, I guess a few years isn't so bad to wait to get the one a month rule lifted, I guess if there's a gun I really fancy, I can pay my father who has his collectors license, have him acquire it so I can at least use the thing at a range, then get a transfer of ownership when I hit 21 for all the things I bought beforehand.

Yeah, definitely worth getting a C&R when you turn 21. You can buy C&R handguns out of state in person or from online without having to go through MD's paperwork, waiting period, or one per month requirement. I just got a Browning Hi Power off Gunbroker and it arrived at my door via USPS.

I guess you should just focus on rifles and maybe get a cap and ball revolver.

The upside for C&R is no 30 days, and no FFL dealer. C&R To your door direct. Save your $$$ while you wait, learn where to shop.
