    NOVICES ALWAYS WELCOME!

    What is Rimfire Steel?

The NSSF Rimfire Challenge is a .22 rifle and pistol program created to introduce new people to the shooting sports and provide a pathway to shooting competition. The NSSF Rimfire Challenge can provide individuals or families with a fun and exciting first-time shooting experience. For more info on NSSF Rimfire Challenge go to their website: http://www.nssf.org/rimfire/#&panel1-3

A typical club match at Sanners Lake will have 3-4 stages where .22LR pistol and rifle are shot at steel targets at distances of approximately 10 yds for pistol and 15 yds for rifle. Each stage will consist of 5 strings for rifle and 5 strings for pistol. Best four strings for each stage count towards the shooter’s final score. Our club level matches at Sanners Lake follow the general guidelines of NSSF Rimfire Steel Matches though at times may have some small deviations.

Divisions: Open - optics on either/both pistol and rifle; Limited - iron sights on both firearms

At Sanners we also recognize categories of: Manually Operated - DA revolver and pump or lever action rifle with iron sights; Cowboy/girl - SA revolver and period correct pump or lever action rifle with iron sights while wearing a cowboy hat.

    What to bring?

.22LR pistol (semi-auto, DA or SA revolver), .22LR rifle (semi-auto, pump or lever), 350-400 rounds of .22LR, ideally 5 magazines or speedloaders for each firearm, and bag or case for each firearm. Contact match POC for availability of loaner equipment for the match.

Check this thread for dates/info on upcoming matches.

I'm not sure I understand the carbine part of the gun you mention. Assuming its a rifle of sorts. As long as you can load 10 rounds I think it should work.

You do need a pistol but if you don't have one we can work a loaner for the match.

    May Match Results

We had 25 shooters come out to the May Rimfire Steel match. The rain held off until after the match though it might have been a cooling relief given the heat!

We had quite a number of new (to Rimfire Steel) shooters and youth come out today! That's really good to see. Keep inviting and bringing your friends and kids out. We love having new faces at the matches. Our top youth was Colin P, shooting Open, with a total time of 144.63 sec. And our top Novice was Gary J, shooting Open, with a time of 182.35 sec.

Overall match winner with a time of 89.24 sec shooting Open was Don F. Second place in Open was Dave K with 94.51 sec. Rounding out third place exactly one second behind Dave was Steve G with 95.51 sec.

In the Limited division, Joe Mu took the top spot at a blazing 99.94 sec. Coming in second place was Joe Ma with 111.12 sec. And in a close third place was Korey S at 112.21 sec. The competition was close today!

Top Manually Operated was Carson F, 293.78 sec, using his new pump rifle for the first time in competition!

Top Senior was Steve S, Open, with a speedy 124.56 sec. Topping the Military category was Chris D in Limited with 114.11 sec. Top Lady was Mary P, shooting Limited, with 151.66.

Thanks to the folks who came out and set up the match and also to our Safety Officers, without whom we couldn't run the match! And a huge thanks to all the shooters for tearing down and getting the stage equipment to the trailer. It made for a very quick clean up and was much appreciated by the match staff.

See the match report, photos and link to full results here: https://sannerslakesportmen39sclub.wildapricot.org/Rimfire-Steel-

See you next month on June 26th!
