AIM came through with my '46 ROF Enfield No.5.
It arrived covered in grease and varnish...I don't think it'd been cleaned since it was last used. pulled all the furniture off and found some pitting and rust on the barrel where it contacts the forestock and handgrip and a little pitting on the receiver. I put half a quart of Hoppes on about 100 patches through the barrel and it's still dirty. Globs of varnish on the receiver were a nice touch. Globs of dirt-filled grease were jammed in everything. I think they varnished the stock over multiple varnishings, cuz the stock is dinged, but no cracks in the finish...Silly Malaysians.
On the good side, it's matching. The barrel and receiver have the requisite MOD arrow and Birmingham proof marks and the barrel has the MOD export markings with the tonnage/.303 stamps. Despite being filthy, the bore is good with good lands/grooves in the barrel. The butt pad is original, but rock hard and pretty knarly...that's ok though. Makes it more betterer. Stock is DARK DARK, which I like better, so that makes it a good point. Finish is so-so in spots, outstanding in others. Magazine doesn't match and it's finish is pretty shot, but it's got some character with an x'd out number....
Three days of cleaning later, she's presentable once again. She's a beaut, guv'nuh.
I'm tres pleased for $395 (well, and the $25 for HP)
