Hi all!
My dad is driving up from out of state soon. From my reading of the FSA, it seems that it would be legal for him to bring his pistols along for a father/son range day.
Section 1, 4-203 (b)(4):
"the wearing, carrying, or transporting by a person of a handgun used in connection with an organized military activity, a target shoot, formal or
informal target practice, sport shooting event, hunting, a Department of Natural Resources–sponsored firearms and hunter safety class, trapping, or a dog obedience training class or show, while the person is engaged in, on the way to, or returning from that activity if each handgun is unloaded and carried in an enclosed case or an enclosed holster;"
Here's my reading of the law
1. These exceptions to the prohibition on handgun transportation apply to "a person"; whether that person must be a resident is not specified.
2. My dad would be bringing his pistols to MD for target practice, a sanctioned purpose under the law.
3. Although not mentioned in the law as a requirement, his pistols are on the handgun roster. (Not sure whether that makes a difference.)
Is my interpretation correct? Alternative readings appreciated
