I have some .223 and 5.56 brass I want cut up so I can reload 300blk also. I don't have a cutter and not really into buying one.

Can I use a case trimmer and a drill to make it work... Or is there another way without buying a bunch of hardware?

If you have some time on you're hands you can use a tubing cutter to cut the cases down.

I bought a little cut-off saw at harbor freight for $30. You just need to make a little jig for it so you don't have to measure each piece.

The harbor freight saw works great. I did unfortunately get a dud the first time but was able to swap it for a new one.

24 bucks. No jog as of now i just cut them at the shoulder and then trim them down.

OP, make sure you do your final trim length AFTER you resize and form the 300 brass.

A hand cranked RCBS case trimmer with mandrels makes quick work of it.

And cutting corners will make the process much more laborious.

Use the correct tools and it will go as smooth as butter.

It's painfully tedious and mind numbing work, but smoother nonetheless.

You will need a saw of some sort. A case trimmer to remove the neck is the most inefficient process there is.

Just trying to help and save you headaches.

I bought the jig from that guy and the harbor freight chop saw. I haven't used it yet though so I cant give any input. Theres some you tubers with the same set up and it looks easy enough.

There is a guy on 300blktalk forum who sells a cutter and a jig. Don't know the price
This jig and a chop saw from HF make quick work of converting brass to 300blk. I use a Forester case trimmer to make the final trim after sizing.. cut a few rounds with the chop saw, just behind (but close to) the shoulder, size and trim them and see how much you have to remove in the final trim. Adjust your jig for cutoff to minimize the final trimming and it is pretty damned quick and easy. I have converted a LOT of brass this way with no issues, investment was about $30 iirc, as I already had the chop saw for arrow cutting years ago.

That is the jig I use and it works like a champ. Indexes and pops the cut round out when you stick the next one in. Just add a chop saw and yes, you should have some ID bands for your mags (I put one on my weapon too, at the rear of the handguard and also have 300BLK on the ejection port cover to ensure I don't mix anything up in a moment of haste.. LOL)

If you want to become an IP (Industry Partner) on MDS, it might increase the amount of business you get. Send a PM to DD214 to get the info and the ball rolling.

I'll be picking up a case cutter as soon as I can.
