Instead of dropping $70 on these, you can throw some together in an hour for just a few bucks.

That's a cool idea. Much better than the empty cardboard box I have a few short rifle sitting on top of :lol2:

I have the plastic rifle rods in 2 of my safes.
If your barrel is small but gets close to the top shelf, the rifle rods have a bulge they jam up on. I made some dowel and blocks just like you show there. I got some sheet material just like what came with the rifle rods to put at the top.
I found that I needed a full sheet across the top in order to be flexible with scopes and such because the spacing is not always the same between guns.

Now go and fill that safe up!
Your neighbors are depending up on you in the Zombie apocalypse or Market crash :)

Good ideal. I have the plastic rods but they do get flimsy on the small 22 caliber rifles that are shorter and I have been trying to come up with something for them. This may work but it would have to be a pretty small dowel to fit in the bore.

I had to turn down a .25" dowel a bit to fit in the .22

Are the rods going into the barrel? I think a second velcro strap looked around the barel and rod better?

Yes they go into the barrels.
They are stable enough to satisfy me.
It'd have to be a high richter number to shake 'em loose.

But in that situation a few leaning guns would be very low on my problem scale.
