I am an active duty military member moving to MD, I have no intent of establishing residency, but will be there for several years.

I am unclear of rules/requirements for lets say several AR15 rifles / handguns in terms of 'registration' or declaration or anything like that. All items purchased before 1OCT13.

I've attempted to search / review but with a lot of other things going on + a lot of confusion with new changes a little help would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

You are good to go to bring ant and all of the above into the state if they were purchased prior to 1 Oct 13. No requirement to register them in the 90 day period either.

There are a couple of others doing the same. Like in those threads if you have the ability don't move to MD. Try and see if you can move PA, or VA. Either way good luck and welcome to the forums.

    Thanks for the replies.

    - I will be moving to MD, no options available this point.

    - If I understand correctly I can bring my items in state and no need to register them at all as long as I do not attempt to become a resident. They will then sit in state of storage unless taken out to and back from the range.

Correct. The storage part is up to you.
Where are you going to be stationed? We can help you find a suitable place to shoot.

    Thanks for the encouragement ;)
It is what it is & gotta push through it.

As absurd as Maryland laws are, those in DC are even more repugnant. Be very careful not to cross into DC with so much as an empty shell case. You will be in the "belly of the beast" as far as anti-2A feelings are concerned.

You have my thanks for your service and my deepest sympathy for having to come to this socialist workers paradise.

Why no choice of where to live?

MANY people in the area commute from VA and WV. Some even from DE and PA. There are commuter trains (MARC and VRE) and commuter buses and other options.

Welcome , thank you for your service , etc

But Bethesda is close to a border , and lots of locations in Va would still be well within the average commute times, with lower taxes in addition to Shall Issue and broad reciprosity, and full state premention against local restrictions.

The military doesn't do well with "I have to leave to catch the train so can't work late tonight" type of deals. Will put you in a bad situation real fast! They need/expect you there when they need/expect you there, not according to a bus or train schedule. For that reason, I always lived within 1/2hr of work.

Brother in DC is about to relieve (fire) a guy who was stupid enough to buy in Fredericksburg and keeps pulling the "I have to catch the train" thing.

Strange, as I ride the train with a large number of military personnel. Including some that work in Bethesda.

And military in the DC seems to be a bit different. A LOT of poeple commute, by train, or commuter bus, or car pool. Of course, that is command dependant. But my Dad lived and commuted as active duty in the military in DC, in a number of jobs, for some 14 years.

There are multiple trains, so if your work day runs long (mine does some times) you catch a later train. I live WAY out, and still have the choice of 5 trains home, with departures covering a range of almost 5 hours.

And you can live in VA, and use Metro. Trains every few minutes until VERY late.

Not sure what the commuter train options are for getting from DC to Fredericksburg (my guess is that they are poor), but I know several people who have worked at the Pentagon and almost all of them commuted by train or bus rather than driving the whole way. My experience has been that the military (especially in office settings like you will find in DC) is pretty forgiving about schedules as long as you're doing your job. If, on the other hand, you aren't getting your work done and then skip out early because you "have to catch the train," I can see you getting fired pretty quickly.

To the OP, I'd contact your sponsor at the organization you're PCSing to and ask them whether train/bus commuting is common in the unit.

Welcome! I'm Navy with a spouse that is Navy. I'm at the fort and she is in Bethesda. We decided to live in Rockville to make her commute nice. The commute thing backfired because it would take 30 min in heavy Rockville pike traffic (it's the main road connecting Rockville to Bethesda). All I can say is don't do it. We moved after a year due to the "unfavorable" Montgomery county. I can't think of a single redeeming factor for living in that county. I moved to calverton, commute to Bethesda is about 15 min early with no traffic and around 40 min with heavy traffic. Good luck with your search. You at the hospital or the school?

Is the place of storage your domicile?
