I'm trying to keep my costs low on 300blk re-loading. Graf's has spitzers for half the price if boat tails. Is the savings worth it or should I but the boat tails?
    Thanks

I think you mean Flatbase verses Boatail bullet.
We shoot a lot of flatbase bullets, Try them, If you like the way they fly in your rifle, Buy lots more.

Unless you are MOA shooter, you will never notice the difference in the two. Even then you won't notice it until you go past 300 yards. If you only shoot at 100 yards like most folks around here, buy cheap and shoot more.

Powdercoated with what? Moly or similar?

No, powder coated with paint. It is the latest thing in coating bullets so that they don't lead. It is easy to do, and you can do a bunch compared to lubing them individually. You shake them up in a container with powdered paint in it, pop them in a small oven at 450* for 15-20 minutes and wala, you have bullets ready to shoot. (assuming you don't have to size them)

The paint bonds well to the lead and I have shot them well past 2000 FPS and have no signs of leading. They do smell a little funny though. :lol2:

am I missing something? Spitzer is just denoting the round coming to a sharp point, unlike most pistol ammunition with a rounded profile.

Almost all boat tail projectiles are spitzers.

Boat tails DO in fact help a lot, in that the best shooting steel cased 7.62x39 I ever shot was Golden Tiger with a FMJBT projectile. However, if you're not going to be shooting ultra long range it's really a non issue. Some say spitzers with a BT tend to yaw less since the bottom has less room to squish the lead out of and cause 'boomeranging' that starts the bullet tumbling. I do not agree with this idea, but be aware that the thought process exists
