That is a sweet 586. I have been putting off my first trip to Gunrunners.
Definitely worth the trip. They always have something I can't talk myself out of buying.

Can anyone recommend a holster that wouldn't get in the way of a padded hip belt on a frame pack? Maybe something that hangs a little lower off a belt similar to a cowboy set-up. Leather preferred, for a freedom arms 4 1/2 inch 45LC.

I saw a place online that sold a set of these (4" not 5.5" like these) as a CASS set, with special serial #'s and all. Had a laundry list of tweaks they could do on top of the already high price. I didn't really see the value in them.

My latest two acquisitions: 586-1 and 686-4. Ebony and ivory...shoot together in perfect harmony.
4-inch models too. Like your taste. 
My latest - a well-used Colt Official Police, .38 Special, with a 6-inch barrel, manufactured in 1949.
