Rossi Overlands are often preferred by CAS shooters. Short, light (though they sacrafice a lot of barrel thickness), reliable. Hard to find parts for.

Id be thinking Stoeger and some action work.

If you are thinking of Quasi-Practical AOW type shotgun , the role model to emulate is the * Witness Protection* . Was used semi extensivly by US Marshalls , and various LE agencies.

( An 870 with bbl shortened to +/- 14 inch aka just beyond the std 4 shot mag tube , and using the distinctive pistol grip , no know as "witness protection style" ).

Back to your original question.....I don't think you can go wrong with Cabelas' Steoger coach guns.

Also, a check of used guns in your area for either Stoeger or Stevens double barrels would be well worth it!

If you're considering chopping a Stevens/Savage 311, keep in mind that they require more than average force to open & cock the actions. Cut the barrels too short and they will be even worse in this regard.
