I recently got a new M1 carbine and was interested in getting a paratrooper M1a1 stock for it. I ordered one from Sarco and it showed up a few weeks ago. The quality is decent, I'd say about as good as a Made In Thailand reproduction can get. The stock finish wasn't great, so I stripped and refinished it.

I used Citristrip to get the stock down to bare wood. Then I used a mixture of red, black, and brown RitDye mixed with some alcohol to stain the wood. When I got the color I wanted, I let the stock soak in boiled linseed oil for a few days before finishing up with some light sanding and a few more hand-rubbed coats of linseed oil.

You got the tint spot on. Looks so much like Chestnut Ridge Walnut with a hint of Red alcohol based stain, which I used to refinish a commercial Universal M1 carbine. Good job!

I would've gone darker, but your hard work shows. Looks good.

It's a bit darker than the pictures show. The sunlight really lightens it up. I did intend for it to be a bit darker, but rubbing in the oils removes some stain, so it's hard to get it exactly how you want it.

You did a great job! I like the Rit Dye method as it allows you to get the color you want. If you want to make it darker you can dye it again without having to refinish the stock, just dye over the existing oil finish.
