I agree with most of what you said. But, there was a poll that came out about 4 months ago, asking Basically, if you could leave, would you? And over half that responded said yes. I retire in 4 1/2 years, and when I retire, the plan is to move to Delaware because of their lower taxes on retirement. But you're right, in the fact that, it is infiesable while working, to leave. I also agree, that Hogan, with all of his good intentions, is limited by what can be passed by the socialist Democrats.

I've been eyeing Delaware for when I go "full retirement" but alas, it's cold in DE. Maybe I''l go south.... anyway, it will be interesting to see what Hogan does and what opposition he will face. He will be a one term Gov at best so he may as well make a splash.

I called b.s. on half the speech. Maryland has the highest per capita income of all 50 states. We can get better. Half the population wanting to leave? Not buying it. Where will they get jobs etc.? What jobs have people eyeing the boarder. Now, when I reach personal assets exceed 1 Million plus for my kids, I'm out to avoid the high inheritance taxes. I'm eyeing a more tax friendly state but what working person is hard up to leave MD now? Where are the jobs? Keystone Pipeline? lol.

I'm of the school of thought of "let's wait and see." Right now Hogan is saying all of the things the Republican base wants to hear. Let's see how that measures up when deals with the Dem general assembly. Right now, the unions don't like him. My brother got a 2% cola in January and Hogan cancelled it for the new fiscal year.

You did get the memo that Maryland is broke due to Owemalley's nonsense right?

Why does MD have the highest per capita income? Who's paying for those jobs?

As for 2% cut for State employees, well that's what the electorate of MD voted for when they picked Hogan. How can a state afford to pay and spend more without a balanced budget forever?

It's working great for the Federal budget. What could possibly go wrong? Over 18 trillion last I checked. (yes, sarcasm)

Those are Fed contractors who work in DC and in the Odenton area. There are no high-paying non-Defense jobs in Maryland any more.

The empty Beretta plant and Sparows Point are the two biggest monuments of the Democratic rule in this colony.

Recall provision for the GA droids on a referendum, anyone?
No mechanism to do so; Maryland does not allow the introduction of statute/constitutional amendment via referendum. That would require the actual opening of a state con-con or successful legislation passed through the MGA. No chance in hell of either of those happening.

Actually, amending the state constitution by referendum is fairly common. I'm just not sure of the mechanism to get an issue on the ballot.

    Happy to be corrected/enlightened

True, though, that we have no recall provision.
Amendments require a bill passed through the MGA, which is then presented to the public for vote via referendum - http://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/43const/html/14art14.html. Amendments are not introduced as referendum, but a referendum results from the successful passage of an Amendment Bill.

I was calling the likelihood of such an Amendment Bill, calling for a recall provision, having a snowball's chance in hell.

I live like 1000 ft from the Beretta plant, they aren't going to manufacture anymore, but I believe it's going to be the shipping/repair hub. God bless Beretta, they moved manufacturing, but kept running for its employees sake.

NIH, FDA, biotech belt, IT, etc...
Plenty of other .gov, gov contract jobs, and private sector jobs in support of government are high paying and non-defense related.

I think you meant to say there are no high paying blue collar factory jobs which is mostly true.

Maryland has the high per capita pay rate based on the proximity to DC and federal pork. The state is remaking itself based on the availability of that pork and the infrastructure needed to support it.

Count me as one who left Maryland and a much happier person for it. I was laughing like a hyena crossing the American Legion bridge to enter America and leave the asylum.

And I did not need to find work here in my new home because I created my own company that would have been hassled and taxed to death in Maryland ;). Plus I have 2A rights well recognized and respected here.

In a radio interview years ago, I hazily remember a question asked, of the then leaving Governor Ehrlich, "What was the biggest mistake you made as Governor?" (loosely quoted to the best of my recollection) Ehrlich replied immediately , "Believing that Democrats would work with me across the aisle for the betterment of Maryland."

I feel Hogan has a hard road ahead, but I wish him luck and will continue to back him as long as he fights the good fight.

Half the population does want to leave or at least did before the election. They may be stuck due to jobs but that does not negate the fact they want or wanted to leave. Count me among them. My business just happens to be doing well in MD therefore I feel stuck here. Dems have destroyed this state. I voted for Hogan and I am glad he won. Unfortunately Hogan can't fix all the damage done in 4 years especially with the crybaby libs already whining because he called them out for destroying our state. :(

Democratic leadership has fired the first round across his bow, posponing his appointments.

If we don't see him grandstanding against this as partisan obstructionism RIGHT AWAY, he's just Ehrlich II :sad20:

The man has been in charge for just over 2 weeks, and he's already being excoriated for not controlling an entrenched legislature??

    Nice.

If you are referring to my post, you have a severe reading comprehension deficency.

I do not expect him to control the legislature. I expect him to FIGHT. If you don't fight, you LOOSE. He has been smacked in the face ... I'm simply waiting to see his response. The first rule of propaganda is to GET OUT FRONT.
