I must have bad luck i guess. 2 separate companies scheduled times to come out and give an estimate but did not show. Still waiting on replies from a few others who said they would "get back to me shortly to discuss"

I re-recommend Will at Oak Hill Tree Service in Eldersburg. He has always given an estimate within a couple of days and the work has been done within a week. They have been very reliable and reasonably priced. I went through 4 or 5 other guys who took a long time to give me an estimate and then took forever to actually cut the trees down. One unnamed guy in Woodbine actually got pissed when I told him to forget about it after waiting for him to do the work for six weeks of no shows and rescheduling.

If your tree's are near anything important, utility poles, home, garage, neighbors fence, etc. finding an arborist that's a climber, those guys are the best and it's amazing to watch.

Climbers are usually better priced than crane and boom truck jockeys, but maybe not necessarily always makes sense depending on what and how you need done.

Another thing to consider is if those are healthy hardwoods, and the arborist bulk up or just drop big logs is to post a Craigslist ad for people to come take your wood. There are plenty here that would probably be interested in that too.

It could turn into amateur hour with people who shouldn't be running chainsaws.

I've found a lot of tree guys in my area prefer to leave the bulk of the trees on the owners property, and get to the next job. Its a chore in itself to haul them to a mill or back to theirshop. A lot of companies I've seen dont usually invest in ultra expensive firewood processing so its not worth the time.

Craigslist ad? Sykesville is about 5 minutes north of me. Count me in on the "plenty". Just let me know and I'll be right on over.

OP - Papi is right. Sometimes, the tree guys will charge less if they do not have to remove the vast majority of the tree (i.e., trunk). This happens a lot in Montgomery County. While I have firewood coming out my ears right now, I'd be willing to lend a hand and take the wood away if it saves you some money.
