    Regarding military calibers:

The debate about which is better 5.56 or 7.69x39 is long from over.

The debate about which handgun round is king is over. It's NATOs choice. It's Russia's choice and their allies. It's Chinas choice and there allies.

Engage Armament had several pallets of 7.62X54R sitting in the shop when I was there a few weeks ago.

Eh? Another executive order or something?

There's the one from the 16th, banning new Izhmash & Kalashnikov imports, but there's also this report from SGAmmo that's making the rounds. Whether true, or not, we've repeatedly seen that perception functions as reality.

"For AK shooters, given the escalation of violence in the Russia/Ukraine conflict, if you are in need of ammo I recommend stocking up on steel case 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 calibers while prices are down. The Ukrainian Factory UCW is now under sanctions and it was recently captured and now controlled by rebels as their civil war rages. We will no longer be able to get ammo from that source. This leaves only Russia as a source for low cost ammo used by recreational shooters of these calibers and it is possible supply could be effected [sic.] if the war continues and foreign relations with Russia worsen."

Note that they say "as a source for low cost ammo", rather than saying that it's pretty much the only source of ammo ... because it isn't. Still, if major sources are shut off from us, that will inevitably mean that the supply from places like Serbia will be harder to get, and more expensive. All this makes for time to be ripe for panic buying and people grabbing stuff up cheap now that they can flip in a month, or so, at gougers' prices.

That's really the thing. Supply AND demand - not supply or demand. Losing a low-cost supply raises the price for sure, but what really makes prices go crazy is runaway demand that combines with reduced supply. I don't mean to whine about capitalism, but market speculation just kills us in this hobby. If you don't like high prices, quit being part of the problem by hoarding ammo that you won't likely ever shoot and snatching up cans of ammo in the hopes of flipping it for some obscene price. Seriously... how many of you have actually taken stock of what you have compared to how often you shoot rather than just screaming "not enough!" and plunking down hundreds of dollars on multiple cases?

What really sucks about this for Warsaw Pact gun fans is that it's coming on the coattails of the 5.45 ban and 7.62x25 drying up.

 So true. There are those that think ahead, see events developing and act accordingly, and there are those that are always reacting to events and perpetually catching up.......the above describes those 2 groups.
