I was about to start my AR pistol build when a friend of mine told me to make sure that the paperwork for the stripped lower was sold as "o" (for "other") under the type of firearm sold. My stripped lower was marked "x" (for "assault weapon"). Anyone know if it matters if the stripped lower is marked as "x" or "o" on the paperwork?

Theoretically yes, it should be sold as "O" for other.
X for assault weapon means shoulder stock and 16" barrel, ergo a rifle.
You CANNOT manufacture a rifle into a pistol.
Contact the FFL that transferred it and have them fix the screw up.

    Who was it?

Damn... Well I'm glad I asked. It's crazy that something like that could get someone in a lot of trouble. I guess I'll have to buy another stripped lower. Thanks

Oh darn, so now you have to build a rifle AND a pistol. :D

BTW, you CAN make it into an SBR.

As long as there was never a stock on it. Do what you want. The fact that your FFL checked the wrong box means nothing. If it makes you feel better, have them fix it. But you do not need to.

Hence the "theoretically". And you can have a stock on it whenever, its the combination of a stock and 16" OAL barrel that makes it a rifle.

Technically. A pistol can have any length barrel you want.
