can anyone suggest/recommend a good mount to add a red dot or reflex sight?

I think the best mount is a Max11 or Max31 upper. Solves all the problems...
Frankly using an original upper just has few good ways to mount it IMHO. I would suggest an after market side cocking upper but they suck too with the loose charging handle.
PS side cocker has a spring to keep the bolt handle in position.

It would not surprise me to find that Sam made it right! If so, then that seems the obvious solution. It does not state it on the website so I could check before ordering to confirm. Without that return spring, it can screw up the bolt movement and jam the gun.

Sam just made me a side cocker with a top rail for an optic. He's also cutting down another upper for an M-11 to fit in my M11a1. He does nice work.
