I hope they catch the @$$hole too, but the government needs to offer up a larger reward if they want to get serious about catching these people.

Back in the day with CARA, we had a half dozen hams in our Fox-Hunting group. This was our forte. Vehicle mounted directional beams, Doppler shift receivers, and signal attenuators. We got pretty darned good at it too.

They should start by checking out the people in Leonardtown with German surnames.

:mad54:I hope they catch the idiots that are doing it. I posted here just to get more people this info. Crap like this really gets under my skin. If you have ever been in a situation where you need assistance you don't want them searching a false call while you are in desperate need of help.

It would be good if they gave the times/dates more accurately.

Is there an active Amateur Auxiliary group in the area?

It should be easy to triangulate his location, unless he's transmitting from a boat.

FCC should be involved, they have a stationary monitoring location in Columbia and another in Gambrills, amongst others I'm sure in addition to mobile monitoring equipment...should take no time at all to triangulate a position

With Doppler direction finding, almost literally, no time at all.

Bingo..Takes them longer to find the exact signal in the spectrum and tag it in the computer than anything, once those few seconds are over and they locked onto it, it's game on

Saw one of their rigs next to me at a Gas Station once...very impressive setups

We had very low tech equipment and we could cover 3000 square miles, locating the transmitter in a few hours. Knowing the town name if the transmitter was predictably active, it would be a matter of minutes.
