      Steel Challenge at Shadow Hawk

For anyone that is interested the multi-time Steel Challenge World Champion and current reigning Limited division world champion, BJ Norris, is entered in the Sat. AM squad at Shadow Hawk this coming weekend. There are still plenty of slots open at this time in other squads.

A lot of 2-gun around here also. just no shotgun, and in some cases the rifle can be PCC.

What the Heck is “Tactical Benchrest”???

Shadow Hawk Defense in Inwood WV says they will be allowing this at their PRS22 matches. Although they call it OG for Old Guys but anyone can ask to do it. Their schedule and registration is on Practiscore also.

      Bowling Pin Shooting

3rd Saturday of the month match starts at 10 AM. Best bet is to contact them and find someone to be a buddy and get you in as a guest. No online sign up, just show-up. Best to show up early first time. They do centerfire pistol and rimfire pistol both open and stock 5 pins per string. Rimfire is...

      Revolvers for competition?

Monocacy Pistol Club in Frederick shoots a real monthly bowling pin match from March to November every year. Separate setups for centerfire and rimfire pistols but both shoot full sized bowling pins. Rimfire pins are set about 4" from the back of the table and centerfire ones are on 2 different...

      But i wanna shoot competitively!

I used to shoot a lot at PNTC when I was a member. But they stopped running the events I like except Super Steel. Now I mostly shoot at Shadow Hawk Defense around the other side of the hill from Peacemaker because they shoot Steel Challenge which is my primary event along with Rimfire Challenge...

      Revolvers for competition?

Steel Challenge has 2 revolver divisions, Optical Sight Revolver (OSR) and Iron Sight Revolver (ISR) Not sure what limitations and allowances are there. SC has 5 plate steel stages and while you can use a 6 shooter most use 7 or 8 round revolvers. Monocacy Pistol Club in Frederick has a...

      Steel shot challenge MD

If you want to shoot sanctioned Steel Challenge matches the best place right now is the Thurmont Conservation and Sportsmens Club. They shoot a full 8 stage match on the first Sat. of the month (and sometimes Sunday also) and shoot 4 stages matches in the evening on the Wednesdays before and...

      Revolvers for competition?

I have owned a few revolvers. Most were my wife's and when she passed away I sold them all and decided I would pickup a 9mm if chance placed one in front of me for sale. It did. A few years later my LGS had a S&W 986 in the used display case. So I bought it, and lots of moonclips. Did some mods...

      But i wanna shoot competitively!

There is a sanctioned Steel Challenge match at Thurmont on Saturday from about 9 AM till around 3:30 or so. There are 13 firearm divisions in Steel Challenge, targets are all steel with max distance being 35 yards and minimum of about 10 yards. All stages are 5 targets each including 4 field...

RFRO Steel Challenge…what’s a good one

I think it depends on how your eyes work. I don't like speed shooting looking down a tunnel and that is what almost all the sights that are not mini red dots or C-Mores are, at least to my perception. With only a couple of exceptions all my sights are mostly C-Mores, 5 at last count, and a...

      Which Glock 9mm?

Admittedly the only Glock I own for carry is my 43. I did grab a 34 race gun from Topps (milled slide, RMR, fully stippled, trigger massaged) added a new 17 to the mix, stirred in some aftermarket parts and came up with a 2 gun bag of 34s that can be converted to compete in Open, Limited, and...

      Hafers WV

Gun stores are coming out of the woodwork here in WV. One just south of I-81 exit 12 on Route 11. Open on Sunday also. Lady owner has a nice selections of handguns and also AR parts like Timney triggers and Aero-Precision uppers and lowers.

What Are Your Favorite 22LR Rifle Scopes?

That BSA 4-14x44 FFP used to be an exclusive MidwayUSA scope in the beginning. Not only is it my favorite .22 scope its also the scope I put on my personal builds and aquisitions first for testing before I decide what to actually use on them. I did NOT however put it on my Interarms Whitworth...

Buckmark rear sight assembly model year changes?

It changed around the early 90's. They went from a rear sight that was under 1" long to one that was a little over. If you check the William Sights site you can see photos of both types.

.45 Long Colt for Deer Hunting

I used to know a person who hunted deer in MD many years ago with a 45 Long Colt six-gun. To do that he had to exceed the maximum Saami rating of the gun so it could not be done with an older model firearm. Think 45LC at 44Mag velocities. The game wardens thought he was crazy but he did it...

      But i wanna shoot competitively!

I don't know about others but for me I have been good at every sport or activity I have ever put forth any effort at. Except one and that was intentional (Golf). Well two technically because in one my younger brother made a serious effort to be good at a sport I decided to not compete with him...

      1-8X AR 223/556 options?

One of the issues of scopes for 3-gun is the fact that as the power goes up the FOV narrows, eye relief goes down, exit pupil narrows, and the sweet spot for you eye also narrows. I started out with a Burris MTAC CQ 1-4x24 and routinely shot it successfully to 400 yards. Thinking I needed more I...

      Micro red dot

Sightmark Mini is not up to the same quality as the other 2. I use a Burris FF3 8 MOA red dot on my S&W 986 revolver and it has worked 100% for several years. The Sig Romeo is used by a number of competition shooters so should be good.

      IDPA PCC

I don't shoot that many IDPA matches or even USPSA matches due to bad knees, but I shoot a lot of PCC in Steel Challenge all the way up to Tier 3. If I was going to shoot PCC in an IDPA match I would do it similar to how I have done pistols, in the spirit of IDPA. I would definitely not shoot my...
