Dog Chases Sick Deer, Deer Expires

I was out at around 5pm and my dog brought up a deer and and gave a short chase. The deer gave a few bleats and promptly died. No visible wounds on the deer. Yeah, my Gordon Setter needs a haircut. It will wait until the weather warms.

      Stupid Young Bucks

No picture, but yesterday afternoon I saw a young four pointer in velvet stalking a doe. Those young ones will be all worn out before the does are ripe.

Question on Turkey Hunting Shotgun Barrel

I sold my Browning BPS with 22 inch turkey barrel. It was getting heavy lugging around. I have a Benelli M2 self loading shotgun that I would like to adapt for turkey hunting. Should I get the 21 inch barrel or 24 inch barrel? Does it matter with number 5 shot? The price is the same, so...

      AmazonSmile and SAF

You no longer have to go through the SAF website to make a contribution through your Amazon purchases. Go to http://smile.amazon.com/ and search for "Second Amendment Foundation" to have 0.5 percent of each purchase contributed. I think you have to use "smile.amazon.com" to make your...

Thank You SOMDSHOOT (Scent Bomb Scores)

He may be banned, but in case he is lurking, thanks! Today was the last chance I had to go out the the crossbow before firearms season. I got this full bodied guy at 35 yards. The doe he was following busted me. But, he became focused on the "scent bomb" I made as shown in a post by...

      Dillon 660 Autoeject Modification

Dillon 600 Autoeject Modification You've all seen the Dillon 600 Swager automatic modifications using strings, rubber bands, springs, and the like. I set up to improve on what I've seen. I inadvertently created an auto ejecting modification. There's another on YouTube, but I think this one is a...

Lapping and Bedding an AR Upper

After reading something here (I think by clandestine), recalling something a gunsmith said to me, and poking around the net, I decided to lap and "bed" the upper on one of my AR's. In the first pic, is the Wheeler AR receiver lapping tool. It fits in the upper receiver. The working face...

Ammo, Primers, and Stuff at Trop

I drove up to Trop Guns in Elizabethtown, PA today (45 minute drive North Harford). They have plenty of .223/5.56 ammo and plenty of primers (all brands). I didn't intend to buy ammo but got 500 rds of Federal XM193 (Lake City) for 0.36 per round. AE223 was 0.34 a round for 1000. Federal...

      Bullying Victm or a Pox?

This young guy looks like he's been beat up a bit. Or he has some kind of pox. Your take?

Looking for a Particular Molon Labe Port Cover

My Google-fu has failed me. I am looking for a Molon Labe port cover, but in the ancient Greek letters, not the Romanized ones. I'm looking for this cover style: But with the letters like this: Harford Engraving no longer does custom work . . . Any help would be appreciated...

      Click - Phew

Click - Phew. I've never done that during a hunt before. And yes, I do have witness marks on my ram rods. At least it wasn't a big buck.

Holy Cow, Look at the Calendar!

Wow, muzzleloader season begins next week! I threw my hunting clothes into the wash tonight. Air drying tomorrow if it's not raining! My Savage 10MLII is ready to go, I went over it a few weeks ago. I have my charges weighed and stored in spent .308 cartridges. I need to check my zero...

      Corn Taste Test

I put out the first corn of the year this weekend. On a whim I bought some molasses coated corn along with the plain shelled corn. I laid out two piles of about 20 pounds each, one coated the other plain. Here are the results. I repeated this in another spot and got the same. My test...

      Fun With A Bullet Comparator

I use a Hornady bullet comparator to set my seating dies, measuring from the case base to the ogive on the bullet. Today I finally broke out a new box of Lapua .308 brass and a box of 175 grain Sierra Match Kings. I planned on seating the bullets to about .015 from the lands on my rifle. I...

      Powder Settling in Measure

I couldn't find any Tightgroup, so I've been using HS-6 for 9mm recently. I worked up a nice 6.9 grain load under a 115 grain bullet by weighing each charge. Happy with that, I pulled out my Redding 3BR measure and went to work making a bunch more. It may be just me, but this powder takes a...

Hornady Manual Data for .300 Blackout

The data in the 9th edition Hornady reloading manual for .300 Blackout is screwy. First, they show a maximum cartridge length of 1.400. The SAAMI spec is 1.368. They show trim length of 1.390, but the SAAMI minimum chamber length is 1.378. I've been trimming to 1.365. For all 110...

      Trop Gun Shop

I stopped in at Trop Gun Shop, Elizabethtown, PA today. They had CCI small pistol primers, CCI No. 41 primers, and a few others. I also picked up some Hornady XTP 9mm bullets and a few boxes of Speer Lawman 9mm (I need the brass). Powder was sparse, but they did have H322 and CFE223...

      RCBS Customer Service Is Great

In a previous thread, I wrote: Well today I received the replacement from Amazon (who also has great customer service) and it did the same thing. So I call RCBS. The tech puts me on hold and comes back saying my old scale may have programming that doesn't work with new dispensers. So...
