CZ 457 Varmint, or Trick Out my 10/22

It looks like my best bet is to just get the CZ rather than to try to make a silk purse from a sow's ear. Of course nothing says that I can't fiddle with the Ruger later. It's funny - I saw that Ruger sitting on the rack at Bart's Sports World (which let's you know how long I've had it) and I...

      Budget 308 bolt rifle?

When I was first looking into doing a 223 rifle for varmints, I looked at a Ruger American Predator. They consistently review well and are apparently quite good for no more than they cost. If I was looking for a budget gun, that's what I'd get.

CZ 457 Varmint, or Trick Out my 10/22

The CZ certainly has a following and I think it would be a tack driver out of the box with the right ammo. When I first started down the rabbit hole looking into mods to the 10/22, I was looking at Shaw barrels, but they seem to be hit or miss, and the YouTube reviews weren't great. The...

CZ 457 Varmint, or Trick Out my 10/22

Now that I have a Bergara B14R 22 LR, I think I want to put together another one. Why not, right? Variety is the spice of life! With that said, do I pick up another bolt gun with the CZ 457 Varmint (this was my original choice before I got the Bergara) or should I trick out the nearly unused...

      Shaw 10/22 Target Barrels

Any updates on this? I'm asking because I've got this 10/22 sitting in my safe that I bought many years ago, but very rarely gets shot. Now that I have the Bergara B14R, my wife thinks she wants to do more 22 shooting - thinks it's fun in fact. This would be a great way to have both of us...

What did you do at your reloading bench today?

I need to get on the ball in the reloading room. I'm taking a trip to Nebraska next month where I should have the opportunity to get into a prairie dog town, but I'm low on varmint ammo. I have bullets, but I need to get on the ball to get some brass prepped, and get some reloads put together...

      CZ 457, Bergara B14R, or....?

Help me try to understand this - should the highest point of the scope rail be towards the front or the rear? The higher you raise the rear, does that not equate to needing more elevation, not less? I had to dial up a fair bit just to get to zero. Raising the rear of the scope effectively...

      CZ 457, Bergara B14R, or....?

I figured I'd update this. I finally got the Bergara out to the range to get it sighted in, but the ammo I'm using - mainly because I have a bunch of it - is Winchester Super X high velocity - 1300 fps. It's not the most consistent. With that said, I was able to have some fun with the rifle...

Desantis Slim Tuk - I like it

And here I thought this thread was going to be about Ron Desantis deciding he was trans. ;)

      Casual Trap Shooting O/U Shotgun?

I have the added challenge of having a wife who is also shooting. Doesn't a round of 5 stand take 50 rounds of ammo? I'm having issues staying on top of my ammo supply as it is! LOL!

      Casual Trap Shooting O/U Shotgun?

HA! No thanks! If I ever get to the point where I'm breaking 25 straight regularly, I'll make my way over for additional frustration.

      Casual Trap Shooting O/U Shotgun?

I thought I'd update this thread with some thoughts about my experiences shooting trap the last few months. Since the previous last post of this thread in early February, "we" - my wife is shooting trap with me now too - have two shotguns that were purchased specifically for clay shooting...

Incredible List of Additions to the Maryland Register

You can't add guns to a roster that no longer exists.

Incredible List of Additions to the Maryland Register

Here's a question - does the handgun roster board ever reject a submission, and if so, why? It seems to me that it would be easier to come up with a law for exclusions (not that there should be anything) and do away with the roster altogether.

      Bumble Bees and the AGC

Recoil is a funny thing. I can shoot 4-6 rounds of trap and hardly even notice it - the main place I feel it is my cheek. Recoil has also never bothered me with a handgun. However, if I'm on a bench with a rifle that has some heavier recoil - two that immediately come to mind are two sporters...

Moving (maybe) to MD - source for gun laws?

Doc, if you can avoid moving to Maryland and avoid the headache of dealing with the myriad of gun laws that don't make any sense whatsoever, you should, IMO. I guess it just depends on the situation, and how much you care about guns. Ultimately most gun laws are never enforced unless one...

      Double Load(checked that box)?

I've used Titegroup a little bit - honestly, not one of my favorite powders in the bit of it I've tried - but I was surprised at how dense it is and how little space it takes up. Depending on the load, I can see how someone could double charge and not necessarily notice it. I really work to...

      CZ 457, Bergara B14R, or....?

At some point I'll get a 17 HMR - currently I'm sticking with the 22 LR for this endeavor. And now, all of a sudden, I have a new interest in obtaining a suppressor.

      Double Load(checked that box)?

WOW! IIRC you load on a Dillon 550. Knock on wood, to date I've not encountered either a squib or a double load. I'm glad that the only thing damaged was the pistol and that you're ok.

RSP vs Haffers for Powder and Primer prices

I got lucky in that regard - I bought a used press from a guy, and he graciously gave me all kinds of supplies - to date, I've only purchased shot and powder, and I didn't need powder for a bit.
