Johns Hopkins Emergency Department has metal detectors staffed by both unarmed Hopkins security and an armed Baltimore City cop at the entrance. That setup was new two years ago, when it took me by surprise and forced me to take my knife back to my car.

Well, I for one am really going to miss this Chix2111 and her many thoughtful contributions to this forum. It's a shame to lose her, but at least she saved me from making a terrible mistake. Having considered her well-reasoned arguments, I shall of course change all of my votes to "Biden."
My understanding is that the prohibition applies particularly to buildings which are occupied by Park Service employees.
It shouldn't apply to stand-alone bathroom buildings.
After they notify you that your permit has been approved, how much time do you have to pick it up? I never know in advance when I might have a slow day at work, which would be the ideal time to make the run to America. It would be nice to have the flexibility to wait a week or two before...

If you're military, you should have a "state of residency" that doesn't change. If that state has decent gun laws, you can visit and buy guns in that state same as any other resident.
I just increase the number at the end by one every time.
Have they figured out how many lives have been saved by this wise and well-reasoned law since its introduction 11 years ago? The number must be close to 1,000,000 by now, probably higher.
