I'd like to take my girlfriend, who is a VA resident, and am unsure what this would allow. She'd still need an out of state hunting...

      To clarify, I know the furbearer permit is needed, but i don't want to make the assumption that no actual license is needed. I've never hunted varmint, and I'd like to take my new AR-15 (and a caller) to try my luck with the coyotes.

      I picked up my rifle and am now a happy man! It's my first AR so I've enjoyed figuring out the functionality and operation. Hope to take it to the range soon. My FFL was great throughout the whole process; I was worried when 10/1 came and went but they worked with me and released on the 8th day.

      OP, Your FFL will be your best resource here; they are the ones that will be submitting the application to MSP anyways. There was an email sent out by some MSP brass to FFLs in the last few days that addressed this situation, with the message essentially being that there is no training...

      This could be my saving grace-thank you! As long as they give me a certification, that should meet the requirement (per my FFL). Do they give out "safety cards?"

      My FFL had received the info from a MSP Sargent that I can't have the background check yet. Conflicting with this, someone in the msp licensing division told me that training wasn't necessary for purchases before 10/1
