I generally agree with you. Note that I said "many," I did not say "I." ;) That said, why take the chance when the cost of a f-up is so high? We have all seen either poorly trained and/or idiotic shooters at the range. Why not make the gun as idiot proof as possible? This mod takes less...
Note - many consider use of a full auto safety in a semi auto gun (as is the case with your gun) to be a safety hazard because removal of the safety can cause the gun to fire.
I helped someone with a similar issue... After a couple of pathetic attempts to add material, we decided that the easiest fix would be to remove the center support, drill the spot welds, clamp a new ejector rail in place, mig weld the rail in place from the outside through the holes made when...
Heck of a price... Below what dealer cost was the last time I looked (a couple years ago)!
I've got one of these, but don't use it much. My 10.5" blk sbr is more fun and more accurate. The HR is a tad quieter, probably because of the minimal action noise, but the sound difference is not...
Looks nice (and looooong). I'm very interested in your experience with that barrel. I had what appears to be the same barrel on one of my builds. It was a 2+ moa barrel!!! Tried lots of different ammo with the same results. Very disappointing.
I switched to a WOA barrel and it dropped to...
I know that many barrel makers do not design the gas system to cycle subsonic loads unsuppressed. Opening up the gas port may be your only option for reliable operation... But beware the consequences for shooting supersonic loads suppressed.
600 rounds before I got tuckered out and went home. The gun ran like a champion. Zero malfunctions of any kind. The only casualties of the day were my bruised shoulder, a pair of nice sunglasses, a burnt left hand (forgot my gloves), a scorched wood shooting bench (this gun got very hot!), and...
4 - I started a thread on this some time ago and did some experiments on the topic... http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=105675
5 - I have done it by hand, though I prefer to put it in a vice on my mini mill. The thing is that I always hand-ream to size after drilling. This needs a...
Thanks to all for the kind words. :)
That was a while ago... Before thanksgiving, I think. Thanks for the help with getting the engraving done on this!
Third, the safety. I bought a safety from the SAM7SF because I love how it works. Of course, I wasn't thinking that the M92 uses a completely different style safety that is not interchangeable (without looking really out of place).
Thus, I had the file and drill the stock safety to...
I thought that I would document some of the issues that I encountered when building this. This is my 4th AK build on a homemade receiver (8th if you count commercial receivers, and guns I've helped friends build), and by far the most complex. It was not an easy road.
First, the front...
Which latch? If you mean the front one, I'm convinced that it's impossible. I install them before riveting the front trunnion in... And it's still hard to do, but it's the only way I can get it. If you mean the rear latch, then I've got a half decent system... I can usually get it by my 4th...
I've been AWOL from MDS for several months now... Let's just say I've been busy. Had no time to breathe, let alone post (or shoot, or build). Anyway, for the first time since before Christmas, I had time to disappear into the basement for a full day, and finish (mostly) a gun that's been...
What a crazy coincidence. This is the first time I've logged into MDS for months and I see a pm about today. I miss another. :( The real strange thing is that I actually spent today doing the same thing: blasting, parking and assembling a 80% receiver SBR build that's been sitting in a tray...
