I definitely preferred the heat output of my old wood stove but carrying in one bag of pellets a day from the garage has been much better than bringing in a few wheelbarrows full of wood. We'll see if I still feel that way in the dead of winter.
I also have a Quadrafire Castile, but it is an insert and it works great. The hopper is pretty big. Kicks on and off as necessary.
I had a Quadrafire Millennium Wood Stove at my old house that I was very pleased with.
So.... I recommend Quadrafire.
It was just $1k, used but only slightly. You'll be hard pressed to find one for less than $1500 in today's market.

Just picked up my first lever gun. It is used but in immaculate condition. A Marlin 1895SBL in 45-70. It is waiting for a Mason leather cartridge cuff and sling, and a vortex diamondback 1.75-5x32 scope.
