i wonder if this might be good for a multi day hiking trip for a group? Seems like it might be a good option as for weight and convenience. I've been thinking of a 4 day hike along the Appalachian trail at some point and I imagine much of this could be split between 3-4 people for that timeframe...
I just take mine, cut the stem end off, slice them in half lengthwise and scrape the seeds out (they tend to discolor) I then put them on a cookie sheet or plate in the freezer with some space between them and once frozen bag them in freezer bags. This way they come out easily as separate...
The premise for planting horizontally is that it puts the young roots in the top of the soil column which is warmer as tomatoes like the heat. So I try to plant horizontally 3-4 inches down. The warmer roots should respond quicker and not have as much of a shock if the deeper soil is cooler. I...
What variety of tomatoes? Any indeterminate variety shouldn't really be affected. Tomato plants will survive up until frost with proper care. They can certainly succumb to pests, disease, etc. Otherwise it shouldn't be a problem. I would say to try not to stress them too much while they are...
I'm trying a layer or two of cardboard with mulch on top this year for weed control. I second the idea of a good thick landscape fabric if you do go that route though. Greenhouse megastore online has been good to me for supplies.
Mid 50s and sunny today. A perfect day to play in the garden. It’s still a bit over two months away from frost free but I can continue to get things prepped.
Went through and finished clearing out the asparagus bed that was a mess from last season. Lightly tilled just the surface and spread out...
It's not a lot of space but with the right plant selection you could grow a lot in it. You could certainly grow your tomato plant, several basil plants and at least 25 strawberry plants in that space.
Tomato plant will take up at least 4 square feet of that. Basil and tomatoes are companion plants so that's good. Basil will take up another couple square feet.
Strawberries, depending on how many, can take up some space. Figure probably a square foot per plant.
Asparagus is the real outlier...
I got a load of mushroom soil and spread on my raised beds earlier in the winter.
I've been working on putting down cardboard in the pathways and spreading mulch on top, hoping to keep the weeds more under control. I did two more walking rows this morning.
Just trying to do bits here and...
Yes, I have a Waterfurnace 7 series, 8 years old. The system is constantly adjusting it's heating/cooling needs as well.as the fan speed to meet demand. Highly efficient and I am happy with it's performance.
I also chose to have a pellet stove in my family room that serves as my "emergency"...
No need to apologize. I have seen how busy you've been and honestly I have had things going on also.
It will happen eventually and I'm certainly not in a big hurry. I can pick up whenever is convenient and works out. No big deal.
Baby, it's cold outside right now......not exactly ready to...
