So for this reason, and the fact that these elections are important, (not as important as 2018 for DINO), I've decided to have a rare mid-week sip of single barrel. Of this variety:

 Four Roses Single Barrel is one of my favorites. Will be having some later tonight.

    A friend recommended it.

My first thought was that each of the four roses seemed to represent the four quadrants of the Maryland flag, and the MDShooters flag.

Not to derail my own thread, (maybe I should start a new one on this topic), but I might be able to convince a good friend and owner of a Maryland distillery, to do a special batch, or at least special commemorative MDShooters labels, do you think anyone would be interested?

Voted DINO. I have done this a few times now but It doesn't seem to be getting any easier. I still feel like I'm going to upchuck before I make my it out the door.

Bourbon? We'll have to wait at least four years after barreling. Rye whiskey only needs two years. I'd be interested.

    Looks like Raskin is going to win with 87% reporting;

    Raskin, Jamie Dem 32,367 33%
    Trone, David Dem 26,781 27%

So in this case, ~5000 DINOs could have defeated Raskin; the sponsor of ... "A legislative proposal to ban guns from the campuses of Maryland's public higher education institutions, which passed the House but languished in a Senate committee for weeks because it didn't have enough votes, was folded into a separate proposal in the final hours of this year's General Assembly session. "

Unfortunately, David Trone was very publically saying he was even more anti gun than Raskin. For the 2018 election (purpose of this thread); will be more specific recommendations, better options. This year (2016) is a Presidential election year, so voter turn out is higher; historically, the non-Presidential election years have much lower voter turnout. DINOs will make a huge difference to make Maryland a better place.

Unfortunately, we DINO's aren't organized enough to pull it off.

Yeah, we should have been out there campaigning for Edwards.

I wonder how she would feel having a bunch of old white guys from traditionally Republican districts showing up to campaign for her.

We'll learn and do better next time.

The way I saw it, the Democrat choices in the primary were akin to "do you want to be shot or hanged". It's gun grabber A versus gun grabber B, and we're screwed either way...
    :mad54:

We may as well get use to it and deal with it, Van Hollen is going to be the US Senator from Maryland for the next 20 years....

....Which is why last night, and in my case, I broke out this:

Have a look at the raw numbers for voter-turnout. Van Hollen beat Edwards by about 119,000 votes. That's 437,000 versus 318,000. Had ALL of Szeliga's 131,000 votes been allocated to Edwards, Edwards would have just barely won.

We need to do more than just push 10,000 votes around, or focus efforts where 10k votes would make a difference ... I'm sure Ms. Dixon would have loved an additional 10k votes last night.

In the very least, Raskin will have to be replaced in the MGA. He was in charge of the Executive Nominations Committee and was vice-chair in the Senate Judiciary, if memory serves.
    ----
My concern for the general election is the effect Trump will have. He scored well with republicans here last night, but I cannot imagine that the majority of the same democrats that supported Larry Hogan in 2014 will give Trump and any of the republicans the support they need to win.
Any of the Republican candidates for congress and senate will need democrats to vote for them.

Hogan has kept himself away from publicly supporting any Republican candidate so far.

You can safely bet the Hillary supporters will be out in droves to stop Trump, and you can also bet they're not going to be supporting Szeliga, Andy Harris, or any other of our allies.

A lot of work needs done.

    Right.

See my post (somewhere above?) about the two strategies for DINO:
    #1: Pick the pro-2A democrat
    if #1 fails...
#2: pick the most terribly flawed democrat candidate, regardless of 2A, betting that that at general election, a terribly flawed democrat will have a hard time against a strong republican, even in blue MD.

Strategy #1 is "pick our guy"
Strategy #2 is "sink their guy"

#2 will likely be at play in MOST of the Dino-type elections, since most Dems are anti-2A, but you can be guaranteed that at least one is a terribly flawed human being.

    Excellent analysis, everyone!

The last few years we have only been learning about, and testing the DINO strategy here and there. The next election, 2018, will be a full court press. If you've never voted in your life, you need to get out there and vote. If you don't have a definitive conservative in your district that you feel compelled to vote for IN THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY; then register as a Democrat, and help us unseat as many of these establishment Democrats as possible, IN THE DEMOCRAT PRIMARY.

We are overt and vocal about our strategy for several reasons, the most important is we need literally thousands of people, who haven't voted regularly because (and they were right before) that their vote didn't matter. They were marginalized, and gerrymandered into it not mattering. THIS TIME, 2018, EVERY VOTE COUNTS. Either vote for your guy, or vote with us to get the bums out.

The second reason we are overtly discussing the DINO movement (but not some specific tactics or specific priority political targets), is because we want to SCARE THE HELL out of the establishment Democrats, so they are forced to spend a lot more money fighting us to support incumbents (the establishment Dems), and fighting 'non-establishment' Dems who are running against them in the Primary. This will cost the establishment Dems in Maryland a lot of treasure, money they won't have to spread around when they go against the conservatives (mostly Republicans) in the General election.

Looks like everyone is on the same sheet of music. We just need to get 10x more folks to register as Dems before the 2018 election. Please tell your friends, and join us!

DINO...well, how did that work out for us? NOT!
    May switch back.

We know that huge change won't be possible without a true statewide effort... but it seems to have had something other than a direct effect.

All this week, I'm hearing a lot of talk about the vast number of registered Ds... more talk than usual.

I'm wondering about the effect of a crapton of people suddenly changing to Unaffiliated (or even R), at the very last possible change date...
