This one, as I understand it, is pretty well 'budgeted' for the long haul.

But, if only because Vinny is throwing the HQL Shiny Object around, there is money sorely needed for the possible HQL suit.

    PM mxrider with your idea.

    Will do.

    Thanks.

    The "possible" HQL suit?

That's like saying the "possible" Star Wars sequel. :innocent0

There is a statue of limitations for filing the HQL suite, and once filed, we must be willing to go and have the financial resources to go all the distance.

We can't file, then say we need more time to raise money.

Make it a snail mail note with a check enclosed, just to be sure you have their complete attention. You were going to send a check anyway, weren't you?

And make the note out to Maryland litigation.....:innocent0

A federal judge actually wrote "Let's be real" in an opinion. I hope the ghost of John Marshall pops out of the ground and beats him over the head with a law book.

He's probably angling for future positions.

    1. “Let me be clear” has been a leading catch phrase during Obama’s presidency. It’s been used at times he’d like to forget, such as, “Let me be clear, if you like your doctor or health care provider, you can keep them.” Whether talking about his foreign policy, auto bailouts, or even receiving his Nobel Peace Prize, Obama is fond of using this statement. He used the phrase 1,066 times after just two years in office, according to Language Monitor.

    2. “Make no mistake,” did far better in his first two years, being used some 2,924 times. His insistence on reiterating it during the 2014 midterm elections didn’t fare well for Democratic congressional candidates when he told a Northwestern University audience, “make no mistake,” his economic policies were on the ballot, “every single one of them.” Democratic candidates throughout the country had been trying to distance themselves from him during the campaign.

What kinds of exhibits are able to be used at a district court proceeding?

The defense has said the banned rifles are "more" deadly than non banned ones based on their ammo and certain ergonomic features like a pistol grip.

I think it would be interesting for the judge and defendants to watch a video of someone quickly but accurately dumping a mag into a target. One target shot from an AR and the other from a mini 14 with a third from a tube of 00 buckshot from a pump gun. The shooting should be done off camera or behind a screen.

Let the defense discuss which one is banned and why if they can guess. Also, the devastation on the 12 gauge target should help make some points as well.

Anyway, this is all great news!

Most of the "facts" cited by traxler in his opinion were gleamed from the plaintiff's briefs and supporting amici filings leading up to oral arguments. all the filings from our side basically asked for strict scrutiny, and then laid out why we should win under that. then said "if not strict, then intermediate" and laid out why we should win under intermediate. then they covered rational basis, why that wouldn't be appropriate, but why we should win under that.
the state did the opposite. they argued why strict scrutiny didnt apply. and why they should win under that basis. then argued why intermediate didnt apply, and why they would win if it did. then they argued rational basis.
in the end, the judge took the state's rational basis arguements and called her standard intermediate scrutiny.
all of this was done quickly, because both sides asked for "summary judgement", a decision based ona few briefs, in order to move the case along to the higher courts.

That would make an interesting exhibit as would the guesses. I have never quite understood how any rational individual could determine the AR 15 is bad but the mini 14 is good.

The other side spouts this BS. Frosh himself said that a pistol grip helps you spray boolits accurately from the hip.

I wouldn't bring up the Mini-14 or AR-10 or anything. Why educate the ignorant?

The state has no basis for claiming that banning a class of commonly held arms decreases crime or saves lives.

2015 was a particularly deadly year for Baltimore city, and there were even at least 2 incidents there that would meet the FBI definition of a "mass shooting" and in neither incident was a state-identified "assault weapon" used. Mind you, the FSA2013 was in effect for over a year by this point.

Statistically speaking, mass shootings in public are exceedingly rare, but the ownership of "assault weapons" and "large" capacity magazines aren't rare things. I'd like to see the NSSF submit updated data on these last two points.
