to coat tail on OPs question I am interested in purchasing a Barrett M99, I contacted my usual shop in Millersville where I have purchased a few Glocks and where I had my AR shipped to. I asked about purchasing this model and they simply replied Barrett banned, looking around here and the ban list a bolt action is still legal, is this a county restriction or shop specific issue?
    Thanks for your time

It's a "This shop has nor clue" issue.

There is only one barrel listed on the Banned list, all others should be good to go. Check with Duffy's un on Falls Rd, 2A Sales in Jessup or A1 Uniform in Brentwood, MD. They will not only able to give you good answer, but in all likelihood, be able to order what you are looking for.

While you are here, if you haven't go over to the intros page and make an introduction.

And consider joining Maryland Shall Issue: https://www.marylandshallissue.org/jmain/join

I'm actually ordering a M99 Thursday from another MD shop. I think it's time for you to look for a new shop lol. Which one are you getting? I'm going with the 32" version. Probably in black. I've already got another rifle in FDE lol.

I'm reading more and more issues with this shop recently. It's disheartening knowing the owners are former LEO.

    In the Crofton area?

I was referring to WAS, in Millersville.

I knew you were referring to WAS and that's who I meant. The owners are husband and wife and both are former LEO. It's sad that they don't know the law.

I have taken my Utah class and some other training from them and I have learned some things. There were some things they said that made me cringe and some things they taught made me seek out better ways of doing things. In that sense it was all worth it, but definitely wouldn't be the first place I would recommend to someone.

Can you suppress that monster? With or without the tank break?

I have a m99 and DTA HTI and the only reason to shoot the 50 BMG suppressed is if you like to get kicked by a donkey or need to eliminate your muzzle flash.

All the suppressor does is take a gun with a mild recoil and loud bang, to a gun with a monster, almost dont want to shoot recoil, with a slightly lower loud bang.

Ever shoot a 308 unsuppressed? that is what shooting the 50 suppressed sounds like IMHO. Either way you should wear ear protection.

What kind of prices are you guys seeing so far in your hunt for an M99?

Check the used market. Alot of people buy the gun and then realize they cant shoot it close to home and they sit unused. I grabbed mine off armslist for $2200. Only had 40 rounds down the pipe, and looked brand new.

    HUH???

Suppressors REDUCE recoil. Just like a muzzle brake.

Unless the stock muzzle brake is a lot more effective.

And if a suppressed .50 is like an unsuppressed .308 in sound level, there is no safe hearing protection for an unsuppressed .50.

I've looked and looked and looked. Can't find any for under $3500 without optics. I'm getting a brand new one for just a tiny bit more than that. Actually ordering it tomorrow from a local shop.

I've shot a fellow member's Barrett w/ and w/o the Barret suppressor. Recoil seemed the same. I will concour that it sounds a lot like an unsuppresed 308.

I'd get a Serbu, Styer, Armalite, etc instead of a Barrett bolt gun.
