Stack-On are usually more of a locker than a safe.
Really depends on the model. The Stack-On Total Defense is 12 gauge steel, which isn't much, but it's a lot better than the 16 gauge steel you find on their cabinets. The lower-to-mid-end Liberty safes that I see held up in comparison as "much better" than the Stack-Ons are 11 gauge, which is like .015 inch more of steel.

Any safe is better than no safe. And if you layer your defenses (alarm system!), bolt it down, and don't leave power and crowbars tools right next to your safe, even a 12 gauge is going to ward off the usual smash-and-grabs. If a pro comes after you, you are generally going to be screwed even with the expensive stuff - power tools and a torch are going to carve through most consumer safes, even the TL-15 stuff.

I agree with you. I haven't seen any of the stack-on safes at the aforementioned store that are heavier duty than the light-weight "safe" and more like a locker.
But I agree that any locker is better than none. I certainly wasn't promoting Liberty Safes as they are marginally better. (That said mine has held up against a pry attack and was dropped out of a trailer and still operates well).

Unless they have changed company policy, Dicks should let you order the safe in store at the BF price and get free shipping to the store. That's how I bought mine a couple of years ago.

Lucky you, I tried this method. But now if you try to order online you have to ship it. And it says for in-store purchase only

The pricing was good in store starting yesterday. Your Frederick store doesn't know what they are doing. Try calling corporate?

Huh. I actually did buy mine in store, but they had to order it for me. It shipped to the store for free, and we picked it up with a trailer and an appliance dolly.

Who makes field and stream? Good quality?

Same as most lower end safes, the Chinese, LOL!

Decent value, at the BF sale price, although dial mech was rough, certainly no S&G, but to me, still better than the elec key pads on other lower end safes.

And any safe is better than no safe.
