Bought a vz2008 and was able to get it via submitting a ATF Form 4473. Week later I went to go buy a lower receiver and submitted a MDSP 77, during the 7 day period the FFL said I was prohibited? Does this mean the vz2008 is illegal to own?

If I were you I'd contact a lawyer.

The most common reason for this is a juvenile record. MD won't approve you for firearms (meaning you are prohibited) if you have certain juvenile offenses until are you 30 something I believe.

You know your back round better than we would...what have you been convicted of?

Hmm, was the VZ2008 cash and carry?

edit: sorry brain fart, all rifles are cash and carry now. forgot there are no longer regulated long guns.

You're in a pickle. I'd talk to a lawyer who is familiar with the crappy and poorly written laws.

You need to talk to a lawyer.

My understanding is that you are OK with your VZ-2008, as MD's enhanced prohibitions only apply to regulated firearms.

You need to talk to a lawyer.

Probally ok on the cash and carry one.

The MD one, remember if your under 30, they go through your Juvie record.

But you should talk to a lawyer asap.

The feds don't consider your Juvie record. Maryland does.

States are permitted to have laws more restrictive than the Fed. There are several other things Maryland considers that the Feds don't.

If you're sure its the juvie thing, ask the FFL hold the firearm and resubmit once you're 30 in month.

I contacted the MDSP and spoke with the trooper in charge and verified what the charge was. The FFL is not willing to hold the firearm and informed me that I am now unable to purchase anything through them because of this.

That's kind of a dick move by the FFL if you have confirmation from MSP that its the under 30 thing. I'd imagine they charged you a hefty "restocking fee" too?

Not going to put them on blast, I actually received pretty good service from them in store, but rules are rules and they don't want to sit on stock when they can sell it, that's their right.

Will use a different FFL though once I am able to, since this did leave a bad taste in my mouth.

If you were permanently disqualified, I'd understand the fee and refusal of service. But you're not. You can legally buy the firearm in a month. You'd think they'd put it on layaway for you (maybe for a small fee) and make the sale. But instead they choose to block you from exercising your rights all while still taking your money. Its bad enough with all the silly confusing laws we have, it doesn't help when our supposed allies aren't willing to help people navigate them.

I'd expect a knock on the door. If you're prohibited from possessing a regulated firearm, you're prohibited from possessing ammo and, I believe, long guns.

In a lot of instances, you're right. However, there are limited instances where a person is prohibited by MD Law from owning a REGULATED firearm but at the same time, NOT prohibited from owning a NON regulated firearm. I've been through this with several customers and MSP several times.
