My setup is a Marlin 795 with Tech Sights. The sights cost more than the rifle, but were an absolute upgrade. Total of $200 invested in everything needed, plus a sling.

Most people run Ruger 10/22s, but the Marlin is quite accurate out of the box and I like its magazines and bolt release setup much better.

As Mark75H mentioned, there is usually at least one loaner rifle available if you ask ahead.

If you like Garands, both the 10/22 and 795 with a rear peep feel similar. Skills translate over well. The Appleseed program is in fact based around the Garand, all the way down to an 8-round magazine simulation.

Of course im a garand junkie! I would feel like a goof ball shooting it at 25 yards though :) ill look up the marlin. I wish my .22 took a mag as im sure its up to the task accuracy wise.

I used a 10-22. Worked great. I added the Tech sights, a sling and extended mag release. What ever you decide to get make sure you have several magazines.

If it had a mag on it id try it but its a single shot so I may just keep my eyes open for a cheap one somewhere.

It has been done with a single shot bolt action and they earned RIFLEMEN. I believe it was at Sanner's Lake Sportsman's Club.

So yep, rifleman with a bolt, and I do believe he shot it with a kimber 82.... I also think it was a distinguished with that rifle as well.

Have you ever approached IWL in Hagerstown to see if they could host? Thier 50yd/50m range looks like it would be perfect for this.

Not yet, but would LOVE to. It always helps if we have someone in the club who'll help us get started.. Volunteers??? :innocent0

There are still tickets available for the October 4-5 Appleseed in Bowie, MD. For those who haven't been to an Appleseed, I'd like to forward the following links from around the Web from those who have:

From LuckyGunner, Massad Ayoob, and from Bob Owens over at BearingArms.

Registration info can be found at the following link: http://appleseedinfo.org/search-states-location.php?locationid=544&id_event=3020

If this weekend doesn't work for you, consider one of the many other weekends available in Maryland.

Spending a weekend shooting always makes for a great weekend.

    Thanks.

I don't know if this will work into your schedule, but we are doing an Appleseed late in November which will be open to centerfire rifles.

Saturday would be spent doing the basics at 25 yards and we'd recommend a rimfire for that part (don't be hesitant about asking for a loaner if you need id - we're all friends here) but we will be shifting to 100 yards (our maximum) for the centerfire rifles on Sunday.

Registration info for the November event (the October event is rimfire only) can be found at the following link: http://appleseedinfo.org/search-states-location.php?locationid=544&id_event=3020

    I hope this is helpful.
