    Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

This thread has veered off into total confusion!

You guys are talking about the 03 FFL: the C&R/ Curio and Relic license.

This thread is about ordering M1 Garand rifles from the CMP: the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

Well congratulations on getting your 03 FFLs. My condolences to your financial advisers.

Now you can use your new C&R licenses to fulfill the "shooting/firearm familiarity" qualification to get a Garand from the CMP. The only other qualifications are "proof of US citizenship", and "membership in a CMP affiliated club", such as the Garand Collectors Association (join online for $25).

I'm practicing for when I put in the papers for my M1. Never hurts to practice.

I cant see where you are from but if there are any wood working places near you they have pure tung oil. Avoid tung oil finish that has a varnish in it. You can also use boiled linseed oil just be careful with the rags as they can combust.

I'd like to make an addendum here to bring the thread to a closer off track.

If you have a boyds/dupage/cmp stock and you shoot the rifle in competition by all means DO use the tung oil finish. I always end up shooting at least one match a year in the rain and let me tell you......pure tung oil is affected by the water, your stock will get wet and it will swell. Tung oil finish is great for those rifles.

For gi stocks, no finish pure tung oil only.

Maybe I should order another service grade......

Checked my HRA status from April 30 and it's still processing, but I'm not in a hurry. I never would have guessed in a million years that when I placed the HRA order I'd first get an IHC from them!

    :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I can not agree more. The thread is for order status of CMP M1s and to share pics of new orders.

And so to bring the thread fully on track, I can officially announce that as of yesterday, I have THREE rifle orders open in the E-Store.

    HRA Service Grade -

    E-Store : May 6

    IHC with LMR barrel -

    E-Store : June 25

    HRA Service Grade -

    E-Store : August 29

When the 11% price increase was announced on August 5, along with the new "No Choice" policy, I immediately ordered another HRA under the old price. I mailed the order that evening with a plain First Class "Forever" stamp. I really doubted it would make the August 7 cut-off, but I figured it was a 49 cent gamble, and a pathetic gesture anyway.

Drmsparks has previously said the CMP are in practice very generous in how they treat order dates and cut-offs of this sort, and it looks like he was right. I finally got the DBU on the 21st, I think, and while they encouraged me to change the order to a Springfield, they seemed to accept the HRA specification. I replied that I was in no hurry, and prefer to hold out for the HRA. I have been waiting for the order to post to the e-store ever since, just for 100% confirmation.

Well the order finally posted yesterday, and I definitely am on the long, long, long backorder list for an HRA Service Grade for the old price of $625.

Now I have options. If I get sick of waiting, I can change the order to a Springfield anytime I want. I can also change the IHC order to a CMP Special if I want to. I hear they are encouraging people to make that change, and I might consider it. It seems the IHCs are an expensive crap shoot, they're apparently not finding many more LMR barrels, and I am really more of a shooter than a collector. For some time I've been tempted to get a Special to shoot hell out of anyway.

Whatcha all think? Should I change my IHC to a Special?

Apparantly they are not that generous :D. I snail mailed the day after you and my two field grades and grade c reciever posted on the 27th, cases added so I expect shipping this week. Field grades are at the new price.

edit: I also noticed credit card charged they should be here soon!!

My uncle tired of his IHC/lmr so I bought his as well. Now I kinda have an extra and have to decide what to do with it.

Both IHC's look like sevice grade specials with 75% IHC parts (not including stock of course)

You should sue them for discrimination!

I allowed myself to be influenced by the advice of others, who said, "You really take a chance ordering a Field Grade. FGs are best hand selected in the stores."

At Thurmont last week, Ken792 was examining a newly-received Field Grade (I think it belonged to one of his College Park gang) which seemed pretty nice. I recall it had a WWII serial number, original WWII barrel, milled trigger guard, and an uncut op rod.

hand select field grades was so 2010. :D

This last batch is looking pretty darn good so I rolled the dice. Did I mention I also ordered a reciever to go with one of my NIW barrels? If worse comes to worse I can take the worst field grade and make it a parts kit.

I'm hoping to find a match like you described (WWII reciever and barrel) so I can trade back for a field grade HRA I traded away a few years ago.

    '

    Shipped. :D

Fedex has a hold option as well. It will be waiting at the store for me a wopping 1/2 mile from the house.

I'll try to get a report together tomorrow night.

    Here is the report:

    got two today.

first- 4.3 mil, original 53 barrel with das, never saw a barrel with the bird before. me/te 3/4 weird replacement stock. Looks like european walnut. relatively matching pieces, no visible stamps. RA NM oprod

Second- 1943 rifle with matching barrel 1/2 on ME/TE. Birch replacement stock, relatively matching pieces. Modified op rod.

both had mixmaster internals, various year SA. Got a nice Winchester hammer. Strange follower rod with raised letter stamping on the surface. I have another rifle with similar markings on the trigger.

Also got a grade c reciever. Asked for strong stamping. Got a lead dipped with no visible stamping except for a barely visible serial number. Stickies don't always work.

    more notes....

The 53 has a faint sa 9-63 etch.

The WWII is in a strange commercial stock. Labeled 280/800 with ink initials ko.

Definitely not gi inletting and here is the weird part. This stock is well used. Not a cmp replacement that's for sure.
