I had a blued 5" bull barrel back in the 80's. I sold that for some reason but my wife bought this a few months ago. She loves it.
    It's tha Competition model.

I think that a lot of this difference of opinion is related to personal preference as to how the pistols feel in the hand and the overall effect and agree that you should shoot both pistols if you get a chance.
I have the MK III 22/45 5.5 target model with a Volquartsen Accuracy group and it is a fabulous trigger. I recently got a Buck Mark Hunter and the trigger in the Ruger far surpasses that of the Buck Mark stock trigger.
It is admittedly another $100 for the Volquartsen accuracy group (if you put in yourself) and according to one of the gurus on the RimFire.com forum, most of the pieces other than the sear are unnecessary.
I have just purchased a target trigger and competition sear spring ($29 total) for the Buck Mark which I have yet to have a chance to install, so we will see. I think that I will get some slimmer grips.

I have the competition model as well. It shoots like a dream. It's got some weight to it but it fits and balances well once you hold it. Its like shooting a pellet gun. I have about 1,000 rounds through mine so far with light cleaning and no issues. I just picked up the tandemkross bushing and speed loader they offer as a package deal. I'd recommend the gun to anyone.

As someone who owned both Browning Buckmarks and a Mk III 22/45 it would depend. Both shoot well although you have to spend money on the Ruger to make the trigger feel as good as the Buckmark with the free "Heggis Flip" of the sear spring. I shoot the Buckmarks better in competition so that is all I currently own. I also had trouble disassembling the Ruger but got over it. Browning can be cleaned without disassembling most of the time (current factory recommendation is fact) and even if you do you can loosen the barrel screw and take off the rear right base screw and break it down into 2 parts for a more thorough cleaning. Both shoot well.

Another thing is of the Buckmarks and Rugers I have owned, every Ruger I have had was won competing with a Buckmark. I have never won a Buckmark competing with a Ruger. I have an online buddy on RFC, Nolan who has 5 Buckmarks and 3 Rugers. All his Rugers have been won shooting Buckmarks also. He had to buy all his Buckmarks. I sold the Rugers I won to fellow competitors. With the new Ruger 22/45 Lite they have finally built and sold a Ruger that is as light as a Buckmark Lite or as light as either with a TS conversion.

If the Ruger is preferec I would go with the MK III Hunter as my first choice followed by the MKIII 22/45 Light.

If other 22's were on the list I would recommend the Smith & Wesson M&P .22lr.

Looking to buy a semi auto .22 rimfire. Since I am a Ruger fan I will probably go with them. So which one of the various offerings would you buy EXCLUDING the high dollar over a grand models?? Also looking possibly at a Browning Buckmark.

Browning Buckmark is a great gun - same quality and accuracy as any MKII/III, but much easier to takedown and clean. Personally, I also like the URX grip of the Buckmark. Also have a Ruger SR22 which is also great fun!

I just bought a Ruger MKIII 22/45 bull barrel target model from Bob's Sunoco. This is my second Ruger .22, first was a MKI back in the early 80's. When I saw the new gun behind the glass I felt like a little boy seeing a cap gun for the first time. It is a great companion to my SR1911, now can't wait to have the time to take my Daughter to the range with it.

If your daughter is young she could get her hands around a Buckmark URX grip much better than any Ruger ever made. The grip is smaller front to back and is easier for smaller hands to use.

I agree and after thousands of rounds through my 22/45 it is still accurate and dependable.

Sorry for the bump...but having recently acquired a 22/45, I'm wondering about magazine ejection from the frame. Having replaced the hammer bushing and magazine safety with a TandemKross bushing, I have one magazine that ejects properly and one that still suffers ejection problems. This magazine also requires more force to seat/insert.

Are out of spec mag tubes common?
