Eleanor Holmes Norton is like the Rev Jese and Al. Holdovers from the civil rights era who still think the best way to move your agenda forward is to play the race card. Dinosaurs whose time has come and gone IMO.

She may be one of the smarter people out there. Afterall, she convinced the city to give her a job, office, check, status, etc... and she delivers nothing.

Does this ruling have any outcome for the guy found guilty in DC for possession of gun shells in his home?

I believe, if he has appealed the decision, then yes, it should be reversed based on this finding.

If he hasn't appealed yet, then I think his window has closed and he's SOL.

What I'm not sure about is what happens to his appeal if this decision gets stayed and then appealed to the Circuit Court. I can't imagine they'd hold his appeal until SCOTUS issues a ruling or denies cert.

You'd have to be out of your mind. First you're risking getting shot. Second, there's nothing to stop them from arresting you. Third, if they get a stay (and they almost certainly will immediately considering the far reach and impact of this decision), you get to play let's make a deal with the prosecutor or wait and hope you don't wind up spending a year in jail and losing all rights to firearms for the rest of your life. No thanks.

    Patience is critical here.

Except it's now all over the local news that even thenChief has told her officers NO ARRESTS.

I'm sure there will be more than a few Virginians showing up armed today.

It will no doubt be all over the news. Can't wait.

I have concerns at this point, as I've still not seen where this ruling effects ammunition, other than in a "ready to use" firearm. I know that I wouldn't even think about a spare mag at this point (though I'm not ready to advocate anyone try it at all yet).

Also, we need to keep in mind the 10-round restriction.

Relax, I was kidding. I wouldn't carry in DC today regardless of the new directive

DC will just get a stay, then come up with a "may issue" system similar to Maryland so they can also get defacto ban on concealed carry. Then our spineless Supreme Court will decline to review the case as they have done in Maryland.

But I'll take a victory however I can get it at this point. It's a positive, but I suspect only temporary.

A "may issue" scheme would not be in compliance with the ruling. The ruling says all people should be able to carry for self defense unless prohibited (i.e. felons, mentally defective) and all persons from outside of D.C. can carry in D.C. unless otherwise prohibited. If they don't appeal and come up with some restrictive scheme, the judge will smack their pee-pee.

Hmmmm, well I certainly hope you are right. Didn't the Maryland system hold up in Federal Court however? I realize different court and all but Federal none the less?

But...they can't pull a G&S move like MD since the ruling explicitly calls out self defense as a valid reason for carry.

Edit...The Doc beat me to it.

Someone pointed out if DC appeals, it goes to the DC Circuit, which has already established a precedent in Heller. They have to abide by that precedent. DC has some very tough decisions to make.

    IANAL

Yup...but...the DC Circuit has now been packed with Obamaites that will put the ideology above the rule of law.

It did. We have a circuit split, plus what the Illinois Supreme Court decided.....Now you can carry in Chicago where just a few short years ago you couldn't even have a handgun in your home.
