I stopped by Clark Brothers Gun Shop in Warrenton, Virginia. If you haven't been there it is a great store. After looking at several items I mentioned I was a Maryland resident. The clerk told me that they could not sell me anything, no guns, ammo, mags, or anything that you could put on or in a gun except a scope. This was due to the new Maryland law.
I asked him if he was sure and he said yes. I looked a few more guns and left. I didn't argue because it was his store and if their policy is not to sell to Maryland residents I knew that I wasn't going to change his mind.
Has anyone had a like experience?

Who's from Martyland??????? If you don't need an ID to buy don't speak, just hand them your money and walk out with your loot.

I might not argue with the clerk, because he doesn't set the policy; presumably management does. But I wouldn't pay them for as much as a pack of gum. Gun owners are under attack everywhere in this country. People in VA, in particular, ought to realize that their time may come. They owe us a duty as fellow shooters and businessmen who make their money from the shooting sports to support our 2A rights. If they won't, then piss on them.

That gun shop is ignorant of the law, plain and simple. Either willfully or unintentionally, but they are incorrect.

I'm sure there are plenty of gun shops in VA who know the correct laws.

I had a similar issue with a store in Pa. Told me he couldn't sell me a BX25 mag because of MD. law. I explained the truth to him and he said okay and sold me the mags. Go figure.

Yes, they are wrong, but the deed is done. The plan is in effect. How can it be undone?

There are plenty of shops in VA that actually enjoy selling standard capacity mags to MD residents. Sharpshooters, VA Arms, and Loudoun guns are a few of them.

It would seem that perhaps one solution is to assist dealers with these types of misconceptions, and assist them in getting them the correct information. I have on occasion instructed the shop folks to go to the web, and take a second to read a synopsis of what the new MD laws ARE. It's not that difficult. Or you can walk away. You get to pick. :-)

Fundamental concept everybody needs to remember: The state of Martyland does not have the authority to regulate sales that occur ourside the boundaries of the state. The only exception I am aware of is the prohibitions on purchase of regulated firearms outside your state of residence.

    MD cannot, but Feds can.

Prohibition on selling a firearm that is not allowed in the buyers state of residence is a FEDERAL law.

Also the prohibition about buying a handgun outside your state of residence.

    So, to push the analogy to the extreme for illustration purposes only;

So long as I purchase the receiver in my state of legal residence, I can mail order, purchase, and receive everything else (except magazines over 10 rounds) as individual parts and assemble a functional and legal handgun.

Call me silly, but a store in State A shouldn't give a rat's ass about the laws in State B.

As long as the sale is LEGAL in the State you're both in, there is no problem.

If Maryland wanted to prosecute a store in another State, they'd have a long road ahead of them...right?

Fed law dictates that the sale must be legal in BOTH states, which is where Clark's failed.

They assumed (incorrectly) that MD law precluded them from doing any firearm-related business.

I had a similar experience at the BassPro in Ashland, VA. While I was not prevented from buying mags, I was told that they would not sell me a handgun, rifle, or shotgun, even if I provided a MD FFL for transfer.
