I'm crabby because I really hate it when people don't come right out and ask their questions based on what they are thinking. You are as bad as a liberal that says guns are bad, without getting into any details as to why they think guns are bad.

You want a straight answer here, then ask a straight question and qualify it with why you are asking the question. Don't beat around the bush and take up everyone's time trying to guess at what you are trying to get answered.

And I don't remember anyone on this board advocating that the State of Maryland would never band ARs, I for one have never had my head in the sand about this state, speak for yourself in that regard.

I want to say I love everything you've posted in this thread nd i 100% agree with you.

This thread is stupid in general.

I call you crabby and you say I'm a liberal? Nice! Exactly why I'm leaving the east coast. First because of lack of freedoms, second because of rude people such as yourself. My post was just a simple question with no hidden agenda. A discussion on a topic I don't know a lot about. I did not break any forum rules or do anything wrong. If you don't like it, don't respond. Good bye!

I never called you a liberal, I compared you to a liberal. You're new to the state and you wanted to know what happens now that you have an HQL, that had absolutely nothing to do with your original post which asked if leaving a traffic stop was OK. I called you out for not getting to the point and asking the question you wanted answered in the first place, instead of beating around the bush like you did.

If I'm rude for being direct and to the point then so be it, I am rube and apparently crabby because I don't play word games, I don't beat around the bush, and I don't coddle anyone. If that's the case, then I'm good with that. See ya.

These threads on getting stopped by the po-po, again. No one ever remembers my sage advice from over two years ago. I really must make this a sticky....

Best way to handle being stopped for speeding:

Begin the conversation on a positive note by responding "that's YOUR job" when he asks you if you know how fast you were going. Immediately demand to see the radar gun, and tell the officer that's just in case he's lying. If you were paced without a radar gun, tell the officer that your friend/relative/professor/former school bus driver is an electrical engineer/paralegal/chemist/GED instructor/criminal justice student/ or other similar fountain of wisdom, and you know for a fact that's illegal.

In the case of a laser stop, tell the officer that he better hope your eyes weren't hurt by his "little 'laser'" (while doing the Austin Powers' Dr. Evil 'laser' air quotes thing with your fingers) or you'll sue him for all of that money he makes picking on innocent people, then also ask to see the laser, just in case he's lying.

Inform the officer you weren't going any faster than he probably does on his way to the donut shack, and then (this last part is especially important) be sure to say in a totally unsolicited manner "You can't look in my trunk."

If feeling really inconvenienced, be sure to inform the officer that this whole thing is "********," and threaten to make a citizen's arrest for kidnapping you. Demand he turn his handcuffs over to you so you can place him in detention and transport him to a nearby "common law magistrate." (this really works too, I think I read about it on Alex Jones or some place like that)

Any of these approaches should have you well on your way to getting a verbal warning and an apology from the officer.

    :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Chris Rock had some advice too :) :lol2:

// And just how would you know or assume that I or anyone was about to commit a crime?
My understanding is that the police, when they pull you over, are supposed to advise you of the reason for pulling you over, ID you, and shit or get off the pot with a ticket or warning. If all of that is done and the officer starts asking questions then are they not just fishing? Am I still being "detained" while this line of questioning is going on?
If I ask if I am free to go, am I?

I can know or assume that someone has committed, is about to commit or is committing a crime because I know the people who live, work and congregate on my post on a regular basis. I know their habits, their character and their criminal history. I know who deals drugs and who is a burglar. I know who robs the elderly on check day and who is a habitual drunkard. I know which juveniles run away on a consistent basis and which juveniles are out stealing cars and getting high. Based on that knowledge I decide who gets singled out for special attention. 98% of my interactions with the public involve a nod and a smile. The other 2% involve me actively exerting police powers.

As for the part about cutting to the chase, that only applies to a traffic violation. If I stop you for driving with defective stop (brake) lights then I'll let you know why you were stopped and you'll be on your way in five minutes or less. If I stop you because I have a reasonable articulable suspicion that you're en route to commit a home invasion or similar crime then our conversation is going to have a completely different tenor. You will be free to go when my suspicions are allayed. For instance, the area I work in has a very serious burglary problem. Therefore, when I see individuals who are filthy and ragged, driving a beat up truck with a flat tire and that truck is loaded down with brand new shopping carts, copper pipes and appliances that truck is going to get stopped. When I speak to those same individuals and they can't tell me where they got the items in the back of the truck, have no identification and I observe bleeding sores on their hands consistent with the chronic use of intravenous drugs then we have a problem. If on the other hand, those same folks have identification, can provide a reasonable explanation as to where the property came from and don't show indications of drug addiction then they will be sent on their way with a kind word and a handshake.

As a Police Officer, I know my post. I don't stop people to go on fishing expeditions. I stop people because the evidence that I have in front of me warrants a stop.

Another good part about GA, not required to notify officers of a concealed weapon (permit of course) even if directly asked.

If I pull you over, I'm detaining you. It may be in reference to a traffic violation or it may be in regards to something more serious. Either way, you are not free to leave until I make contact with you and complete my investigation. Follow the line of nonsense contained in that first post and you will spend the day (or night) in jail and have to utilize the services of a bondsman. If I ask you whether or not you're armed you can certainly exercise your right to remain silent. How that will turn out varies from Officer to Officer. As long as you're not intoxicated, insane or going about armed to commit a crime I personally don't care so long as you don't do something stupid like drawing the weapon as I approach or throwing it out the window. Those things tend to raise red flags and may result in a significant emotional event.
