Working on a new project and need some input from everyone. I've been looking at different short barreled Uppers, and have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for. I have already emailed Andy at Engage to see if he can put something together for me. In the meantime, I've been looking online and prices are all over the place.

Here is what I really want (But can't put the cash down on this just yet)

Here is a much less expensive option: (Can buy it now)

    http://www.shop.masdefense.com/105-556-223-BARRELED-UPPER-YANKEE-HILL-9675-DIAMOND-105YDSBU.htm

Where else should I look? I consider myself pretty well versed in ARs but these damned short barrelled uppers have me stumped.

Let me know what you guys think.

    Thanks.

I found one of that exact upper on Midway USA and snatched it up. Waiting on my Form 4 for my Engage lower to clear in a few months. I paid around 1k IIRC.

Thanks. I know they're not cheap but I'm just wondering if one can go cheaper and get something range reliable.

I did notice the other one you posted did not include the BCG.

Can't speak to that upper's reliability.

I have a spare BCG and charging handle so I'm not worried about that. I read some of the reviews on the less expensive one and they all seem good. I just don't want to cheap out too much.

Meet in the middle and get the same quality as the DD one, and very lightweight. I plan on picking up a KMR upper or 2 this year. (since you already have BCG/CH).

I also have an LMT/DD mk18 upper and it's really nice. But if I were to do it again I would probably go with a different rail, just because I don't need a full quad rail.

Edit: or you can buy a quality upper/barrel now and add the rail you want later on

Damn. I didn't even see that one. thanks!

This just dropped in my email. Not exactly what you were looking for but figured I'd pass it along anyway since it was fairly close and well priced.

I really want to know what the difference in quality/reliability is between this upper and anything from DD, BCM etc

Later this year when I submit my sbr form 1, it'd be nice to score a quality upper at half the price of the big names...

Thanks Ryan. It looks like it's out of stock. I love PSA stuff, it's great quality at a fraction of the price. I'm really not in a hurry so I may wait until they come back in stock or wait for the right deal on a DD.

I'd also look into having Mark from Precision Firearms build you one to your specs. A la carte so to speak. He's at most gun shows and as busy as he is I'm sure his work is top notch. I'm going that route when ready.
Never understood why short barreled uppers are so expensive.

I have 10.5 and 11.5's from DD, Precision Firearms, MAS Defense, Sabre Defense and I'm happy with all of them. The DD is my favorite but that is mainly because I spent more on it with the DD lite rail and Vltor upper.

SBR's are great but I don't put nearly as many rounds through mine because they are so loud and tend to drive people crazy that shoot next to you at ranges. That is why I opted for lower priced setups after dropping $1k on the Vltor/DD setup.

Precision firearms seems to be the most expensive, followed by DD. pwoolford, is there any reason to stay away from MAS Defense? Seems to be a decent option. I just don't want to get stuck with crap. I know how finicky Short barreled uppers can be.

I have three barrels (1 10.5" and 2 16" SS) from MAS Defense and have zero complaints on any of them. I don't have more than 500 rounds on any of them so I can't speak to their long term durability, but so far so good.

rouchna, just get your parts together.

I'm sure there's a few people around that can build it to your liking. ;)
