    Hello,
I have really been wanting an AR and with 10/1 approaching its now or never. I really don't have the funds to buy a complete rifle at this time so I've been looking at lowers to have until I can finish it. Since this will probably be my only chance to get an AR what are some of the better lowers to look for? Can I order two lowers at the same time and have some wait time in between them? I also have a handgun ordered from March that should be in this month, should I wait to order the lower(s) until the paperwork for the handgun has been submitted or does it matter? Also, just want to make sure that as long as I have the lower ordered before 10/1 I can get the rest of the build parts anytime, correct? Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but this was a question for 10 months ago. I'm not bashing you, just simply the days for being picky are a little behind us.

Simply put, find a dealer or online source that has all metal mil spec lowers and you should be OK. If you can afford it, I would get 2 from different vendors just in case.

Look in the AR sticky thread about building an AR, there is a wealth of knowledge specifically on the lowers. You'll notice that there are actually very few manufacturers, so any from that list should be good for you.

Good luck, and just get them while you can.

Many local dealers have lowers in stock. You can build later, get the lowers NOW! Go to a couple of shops, see what they have, google the brand and you will see folks reports on them, usually AR15.com will pop up with comments on a brand. Kinda hard to go wrong, there are very few brands that have bad history.

You can transfer two and then wait 60 days before your next regulated gun. Get what you can now and get a couple more than you think you will want to build. They are addictive!

Are stripped lowers running for a lot of money locally? I remember the days when they were $80....not sure what the damage is now.

Didn't see palmetto state armory in the sticky post. Good or bad?

    Middle/bottom-ish tier?

Top brands? Noveske, DD, BCM, Black Rain, LVRC, Colt

Middle tier - Stag/Spikes, Mega, etc (I'm missing a bunch, sorry this was off the top of my head.

    Lower tier-Buschmaster, DPMS, etc.

Step #1 - apply for Designated Collector today !
Step #2 - jump on the 'net and check both Palmetto , and Aeroprecision for blemished lowers. ( Price and availability varies , but under $100, sometimes by a lot).
Step #3 - order as many Blems as you have available funds , have shipped to same FFL as is handling your handgun.
Step #4 - submit one lower on the same paperwork on the same day as handgun, even if you have to wait for lowers to arrive. Before the 60 days finish , your DC Letter will arrive , and all the time issues become moot.

Put your 2013 budget into handguns and stripped lowers , 2014 budget goes to the parts to complete some of the lowers.

If you're looking to buy on the web, keep an eye on slickguns.com I've seen the Aero blems go for $85 within the past few weeks. The PSA blems are also very reasonably priced. Today there was a stripped Spike's spider logo lower @ Joe Bob's for $119:

All three options are quality parts and may even be run on the same mills!
+1 on the Aero blems.

Other way, you can order lower stripped for Glocks at LWD for $250 each and finish it after Oct 1. Same way with AR lower.
