Call and Press 3 (not 1)

After calling I pressed 1 to renew my membership (thinking it was a renewal and upgrade at the same time) and the lady said the sponsor would have to call and pay.

So I called back and pressed 3 (which says "if you're a life member or want information about becoming a life member") and the guy just asked for the sponsors membership number and my membership number (and my credit info of course).

So a huge thanks to Tom - ke3gk!

BTW - I think it was a lot more than 9 minutes on hold and LESS than 2 minutes to give the info.

Glad you got it. There's no limit to the number than a Lifer can sponsor that I know of, so the offer still stands.

Bummer: I just called. They told me that since I am a regular member, a life member has to call and sponsor me (and pay the $300) as a gift. Otherwise it was $600 to upgrade to a life membership.

I think if you press #3 you get through to someone who can upgrade you. all you need is thname and membership # of a life member

Try again, ask for the Life Membership Department. Prepare to spend 20 minutes on hold.

Not to throw a wet blanket on this, but based on the action that I have seen in the last 10+ years in the advancement of 2d rights, I think that the SAF is much more deserving of my donations. I stopped giving to the NRA when I realized that I would much prefer real action to my monthly edition of the American Rifleman. Just my $.02.

NRA does serve a purpose - and a one time donation ot become a life member is a good way to go. then your monthly/yearly donations can all go to the SAF

That's pretty much exactly what I do. For the record, I am a lifetime member of the NRA (and got a really cheap engraved Bowie knife from them as thanks)... but I have not given them money in 5+ years. Not because there is anything wrong with the organization. I just like to see results and the SAF has been providing results. That deserves to be rewarded financially in my view so they can continue/expand their efforts.
