Not everyone could say they got their grail gun at 20 but i guess im just lucky.

another user requested i post a thread about this rifle so here it is.
for those who don't know the polish WZ. 91/98/23,25,or26 were mosin nagants captured by the poles during the polish soviet war or potentially left over from WW1 that were converted to be more like the mauser rifle they had just adopted. Mostly by being cut down to carbine length, the addition of a Mauser bayonet lug and most importantly being rechambered in 7.92x57 mauser.

This particular one was in pretty rough exterior shape, some surface rust all over and the bolt handle and cocking knob were rusted like crazy so i replaced them with some donor parts from my Izhevsk PEM that im re-snipering.

this also happens to be on a 1895 Izhevsk reciver making it really old and potentially the rifle may have been used in quite a few wars, making it astonishing its still around. The ruso Japanese war, ww1, the polish soviet war, and ww2.... thats a looot

Did they rebarrel it entirely, or just shorten the existing barrel and rechamber it? Perhaps it got scrubbed as part of that process.
No doubt the motivation was nationalistic anyway.

    Cool rifle though.

Cool rifle!! Minus the bolt, how many other numbers match?
Can you take a picture of the manufacturing date stamped on the butt, please?

Here’s a non-professional English translation from a Polish archive. My collector buddy did this and put HIS educated guesses in parentheses when the translation got a little sketchy.

Well the original bolt is too rusted to tell, otherwise I'm pretty sure everything matches. I'll try and get the number off the butt too

Take a macro picture of the rusted bolt anyway. Maybe we can see something that matches it to the rifle. Just take a pic of the stamp on the butt as well. Even if it doesn’t appear legible. Someone may see something others don’t.

We just like to see lots of pics!! :D

You're going to want to clean up and keep that original bolt because it's unique to this 8mm Mauser chambered model. The bolt you have in it now is for the rimmed 7.62 x 54R and won't support an 8mm round. Here are a couple of photos that I took of my Wz bolt next to a std 7.62 x 54R bolt. Significant differences.

Only the bolt knob and cooking piece is swapped out, the parts essential for 8mm are still in use

Thanks for the bolt pics! As for the butt stock, I was referring to the serialed portion of the wood. Sorry for the confusion.
It would look like this (not my pics) -

Oh alright, I'll try but I'm 90% sure nothing is legible

Nice pics! Better than your bolt takes :D
The first pic is very clear. ZBR.2 5.34
The last work or issue (not sure) was done in May 1934.

    Zbr.2 - Zbrojownia nr 2 w Warszawie
= Armoury no 2 in Warsaw where later changes might be
done or some parts provided during initial conversion.

The second picture is the serial number. It >may< be 30986. That’s tougher to decipher.
    Thanks again for the pics!

    My pleasure!
Now you need to find an example from Warsztat Rusznikarski Nr 1, aka Gunsmithing Workshop No. 1, aka W.R.N.1. Only a very small percentage came from there.

Most were built in Lviv/Lwów as designated by ARMA LWOW, like stamped on your rifle.
