This ad keeps popping up in the NRA email I'm getting and looks like a night vision binocular for $99. I'm inclined to put this in the category of "if it's too good to be true, ..." but then how good does a night vision device have to be to be worth 100 bucks?

Yeah, I know. Don't waste my money but I feel compelled to ask - Does anyone have any experience with this thing?

It's garbage, dude. You want to go cheap and digital, just buy a used or refurb Sionyx Aurora. I have proper gen3 binos, thermal, etc., and I still get a lot of use out of Aurora.

On your recommendation I looked up this current deal on the Sionyx Aurora kit. I'm primarily interested in using it out on the water after dark and will just leave this on the boat.

My younger brother has a Sionyx night vision that he uses for nighttime on his boat. It’s a decent unit. He picked it up at the Sailboat show in Annapolis a few years back. There used be a dealer that had a booth set up there, not sure if that is still the case.

The only thing about the Sionyx is that you'll want some supplemental IR in really dark situations, but that's true of any digital solution. I use mine to record at NV and low-light shoots, and I'm very happy with it.
