I have a win 62 pump .22 short. It is pre-war but the serial numbers start 850xxx. I can't find serial numbers over 400xxx. Anybody have any ideas for the ser# being so high? Looking for year of manufacture of course. Thanks

My source has similar results, with model 62 topping out around 400,000.

Call the NRA museum. Maybe they can help?

Yeah ,I'm calling the museum. All the identifiers show an original pre-war 62 .22S. Numbers match on tang and receiver at 805xxx. Even used a loupe to look at the already distinct numbers. 400k is quite a spread in production.

Just found this. Kind of explains the issue. Possibly a pre war 62 with a model 90 or 06 receiver. Still need to research DOM. Have to get the barrel date from under the mag tube. Could be a 90/06 with a 62 barrel. ? I need to see the difference between the 90/06 and 62 exactly. The link takes you to pg 2 start with page 1 lol

Trying to do this by memory while at work and it's stupid slow...
I think you're right, the 1906/62/62A all have the same basic receiver but there are plenty of changes that came about over time, like...
-1906 and pre war 62s will have tangs tapped for sights. Over time that went away.
-1906 and early 62s have a flat main spring. Later that was changed to a coil spring.
-1906 and early 62s have a shorter forestock
    -Barrel lengths changed over time

There should be plenty of clues lying about to point to exactly what you have. Note that it very well could be an amalgam of bits and still be factory built as we're talking Depression era and Winchester in flux with design changes.

I have come to the conclusion it's an early 62 barrel on leftover 06 receiver and trigger tang. About 1932/3 dom
Will know a little more when I see the barrel date.

I found Winchester collector. Org I think it is. They are doing a survey on a particular run of serial numbers.
Mine is in the survey now. The cleanup/leftover model 90 receiver was stamped September 38 using the ending sequence of the discontinued mdl 90.
