Wow!! Few lunkers there compared to what I’m used to seeing! In MoCo if i see 4 I’m having a great day. I was really surprised when i went south how many there were.

Thanks. These fish are everywhere now. But we don't see the real big ones like we used to see 10 years ago. Still find them once in awhile tho. Here's my buddy with a 18.6 and a 16.3 from earlier this year

Flounder season is currently closed in NC. This had to be relased. I would guess 18-20" fish.

The kayak fishing posts have me jealous. Planned to try some kayaking this year to see if I want to spend money on one, then had shoulder surgery in June. Doc is letting me bank fish, but said no paddling still...

Back from my overnighter on the Shenandoah with my son and a new fella.
We have been running the Doah for 15+ years,,, it has changed drastically in the last 3-5 years. we experianced 2-3 TIMES the number of people on the river and camping riverside,, the days of "back to nature" on the Doah are gone.
More outfitters are running "tubers" down the river,, by the hundreds now,,
What has drastically changed is farmers discovered they could "rent" their fields to large (200-400) groups from DC and NOVA and turn the river into a street festival. I knew The Shenandoah Valley would eventually get swallowed up by the DC metroplex,, but did not expect it this quick.
Anyhow,,

Trip was good besides the crowds. Son and I were 25 and 30+ smallies per day.
Water level was perfect, temps were good.

Can i ask where? I’m not looking for your honey spots just a general geographic region.

Next spot I’m gonna hit is close to Hurlock but best I’ve done is closer to Cambridge. Due to 3 kids i generally stay in MoCo though.

Buy some “Joes flies”. Handmade in WV i think but literally everything eats them!

Damn...nice fishing! I get skunked on smallies all the time. What are you fishing with?

I run 4 rigged rods:
1) for top water (I use a small buzz bait, son uses a small wopper plopper)
2) Wee crawl crankbait
3) UL rod with 1/16 - 1/8 Road Runner and 3" grub/twisty tail
4) Ned Rig or Senko for slow presentation in slack water.

I am casting a different rod every few cast sometimes, it all depends on the situation.
I run a stakeout pole, to hold my kayak in moving water if I want to fish an area,, then I may move 25' and stakeout or high center a rock to stop and work an area again.
The cloudier it is, the more the top water is thrown,, if I am drifting by a small patch of "eddy" and the sun goes behind a cloud, the top water is thrown,,
If there is a deep pool and it is sunny, the need rig or senko.
The wee crawl is thrown between ledges in the troughs,,

The UL with the RR and grub is my "I'm bored and wanna catch some dinks" set up. I'll throw that in the riffles and get a few 6-10" fish,, then go back to the other set ups.

What works one day,, doesn't the next day,,, and things change throughout the day,, constantly changing it up color wise to dial it in.

Was at work today and took a ride to the water before heading back to shop. Miles of Bush River shoreline . It was cooler today so a few fish jumping out there. Saw one snake and it jumped into the water. Then I look down around the rocks and there is one of the biggest water snakes I have ever seen. It was dragging a 12" catfish out of the water. Catfish was lively and fighting but the snake had its teeth sunk into its head near its eye. He was trying to drag it onto the shore and then stretching its mouth around the fish. I didnt have my phone on me and wish I had a pic.

Honestly, we fish all over the place. The bay, patuxent, potomac and even been to the rapp a couple times. But mainly all around southern md

Yup
After his 2nd he said he wanted to try for it and did it. My other son and I could hear his scream thru his snorkel when he got it.
My other son and I lured them to the boat with a surface chugger and right to Son #2

They were not biting easily like usual so into the water he went.

No pics unfortunately as I can't transfer them from my flip phone.

Yesterday I decided to fish at Quiet Waters Park which this year has been terrible. Yesterday I did at least see breaking fish and had some small bites that couldn't get on the hook.

I was just about to leave at 1000 when I decided to put a #6 jig on with a piece of chartreuse gulp bait on it and drag it around the pilings. After about 15 minutes I was about to leave and I felt a small hit but didn't recognize it. As I am retrieving the line, what do I see on the hook but a 4 inch flounder!

I have caught flounder there in the past ranging from 12 to 15 inches usually on bloodworm. I have never seen a flounder this small. His eyes didn't roll over yet even.

Not one damn Perch bite in a place where I have caught them for years. Is it global warming or nuclear pollution.
