I hooked up with a huge koi today. Battled for a few minutes but it dove down into the weeds. Eventually the line stopped moving and broke with full tension.

Fingers crossed it was able to swim away. Didn't see it again.

So. I got a boat. A little trolling motor. Jumped through all the ridiculous hoops to register and title boat and trailer. I put my $60 check in the mail to the city for Liberty and Prettyboy last week. How long do I wait for that ridiculous sticker?

It’s hard to predict but it should be pretty quick since there shouldn’t be many new applications this late in the year. If you get any strange phone calls it could be the processor if she can’t read your application or needs clarification.

Holy shit. I just had the same experience with (what I would consider) a humongous striped bass. I was fishing off the pier and had just ran out of crickets. I don't think I know how to put a hook on them, because I lost them on every single cast. So I decided to switch to a crankbait. At that time, fish were popping up to the surface, so that further motivated me to push on. About 5 minutes later I hooked him. What a fight. I knew my 10 pound line wasn't going to be able to drag him out of the water, so I brought him as close to the surface as possible and tried to walk him back to shore. I was 20 effing feet away! Then my line popped. Sigh. :sad20:

Caught this skate in OC surf this evening. Beautiful night for a beach bonfire and surf fishing.

Went to MarlinFest this morning. The fog was like pea soup. The White Marlin Open will be interesting with Debby weather showing up later in the week. Screen shot was from around 4pm ish today.

Here's a LM bass that a young local fellow caught last week while catfishing. The reason he's so muddy is because he got in the water to try and land the fish. I was told that it wasn't weighed and that it was put back in the water. View attachment 484346
That's a beaut! Good of the young man for putting her back so she can keep making babies.

If it's a trophy some are after, "release" mounts are way better looking than real ones these days. Just take a couple quick measurements and revive and release.

    Congrats to the young man.

Went out yesterday after the storms and did pretty well. Between the 2 of us we caught, 25 crappie and 3 yellow perch.

I caught a 2.5lb LM bass on a crappie rod while my buddy caught a 3lb LM on an ultra light LOL.

Fun times but got sunburnt to hell.

Caught my PB at Piney run today. 6.2#s on 6# test. The first LMb I’ve ever had to chase with the trolling motor since I keep the drag pretty loose with the light line. Piney can be super tough in the summer with kayakers everywhere and especially today. Debby has made most local places unfishable so there were a lot of people at Piney today. The morning was very slow, we only managed about a half dozen. I made one last move around noon and that’s when she hit. She gave me some great jumps and then ran under the boat forcing me to spin the boat and chase a little until she surfaced next to boat in perfect net range.

Finally a good day on the water. Son spearfished Mahi on the left and Jack on the right.
Sea bass bite went cold at only 10am. I did find out why though, keeping that a secret :)
